Yawn...predictible anti-Radiohead comments from people who just don't like Radiohead. I don't like any of the metal or rap or hip hop mentioned in here and I haven't been bagging any one elses opinion. I don't see why you should be any different.

Why don't you actually stick to the post and tell everyone your choices?

I'm not bagging anyones opinion, i just don't think it's a very good album, i find it boring. Maybe my comments were a bit harsh but then again I haven't liked radiohead since Ok computer.

As for albums i liked, in no particular order:

Bloc Party - A weekend in the city
Arctic Monkeys - Worst favourite nightmare
Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia
Interpol - Our love to admire
Justice - Cross
Dizzee Rascal - Maths + English

Been a pretty ordinary year IMO.

These are my personal picks:

Airbourne - Runnin' Wild
Alchemist - Tripsis
Darkthrone - F.O.A.D.
Finntroll - Ur Jordens Djup
Gamma Ray - Land of the Free II
Gospel of the Horns - Realm of the Damned
Korpiklaani - Tervaskanto
Obituary - Xecutioner's Return

And none of those absolutely blew me away, but they're good.

Fave Of The Year: Babyshambles - Shotters Nation(LOVE this album) & Scary Kids Scaring Kids - City Sleeps In Flames. (<-- was actually Nov 06 but close enough)

Disappointment Of The Year: Funeral For A Friend - Tales Dont Tell Themselves. (First two albums were stunning, this sounded like an album made for radio)

"Cant Stand" Of The Year: Couldn't split Fallout Boy & Sum 41.

10. Operator Please - Yes Yes Vindictive - Ignore the stupid Ping Pong song and this is actually a pretty good album. Great vocals, good song structure (awful lyrics). Once these guys mature, they'll be fantastic.

9. The Hives - The Black and White Album - A band that does not know how to disappoint. Consistently consistent.

8. Ween - La Cucaracha - These guys are brilliant. Nuff said really.

7. Hilltop Hoods - The Hard Road: Restrung - Maybe cheating a bit here, a re-release of a 2006 album but nonetheless, the orchestra really add something special to what was an already great album.

6. Tim Rogers - The Luxury of Hysteria - A man of many talents, and clearly Australia's best singer/songwriter. Forget Missy Higgins and other pretenders, this man still holds the mantle as this album proves.

5. Grinspoon - Alibis & Other Lies - I thought Grinspoon were dead. Finished. Phil was in rehab, they'd released a greatest hits album... but then this landed. They're back baby!

4. Tim Armstrong - A Poet's Life - Without doubt, one of the best songwriters around today. A masterpiece.

3. Kisschasy - Hymns for the Non-Believer - A band that have been paying their dues for years now on the live music scene, they're finally starting to get the recognition that they deserve. Brilliant album.

2. Reel Big Fish - Monkeys For Nothing and the Chimps For Free - Just a great party album, and a welcome return to form after the dismal We're Not Happy Till You're Not Happy of 2005.

1. Dropkick Murphys - The Meanest of Times - Wow. Just when you think the Murphys have lost their touch, they blast you with this tour de force. A seminal album, one that should most definately receive more exposure than it does. Do not miss this, regardless of your tastes.

Tbh, I'm with the crowd re: Radiohead, I love their older stuff but In Rainbows really didn't do it for me.

I thought In Rainbows was better than everything from Kid A onwards but still not a patch on The Bends and OK Computer IMO.

Kid A is probably their best in my opinion. Despite the experimentation the songs still kick major ass.

Amnesiac is probably my least liked, and Hail to the Thief has some amazing moments, but isn't as consistent as others.

The best parts of Kid A and Amnesiac would have made one incredible album...

IMO In Rainbows is slightly behind The Bends (but only just). OKC and Kid A are well in front, but they are probably two of the best albums ever.

I implore you to go see them live. They play the Enmore on 22 and 23 of January then BDO. They will be the highlight of BDO. Also, while Neon Bible is good, Funeral is great. Take a listen to both albums.

my mistake. i got told by my mate that i listened to funeral

i loved it though

Funeral would be well in my top 10 albums ever. Some pretty amazing music right there.

Neon Bible is good too - just not Funeral good.

imo

1. Because Of The Times - Kings Of Leon
Perfect rock record. The word 'perfect' doesn't sound effusive enough... it's purrfact, purrrrfeeeeect. Highlight: McFearless

2. In Rainbows - Radiohead
This comment will not mention OK Computer or Kid A or any previous Radiohead album! A slab full of really good songs is all this is. Highlight: Jigsaw Falling Into Place

3. Graduation - Kanye West
Grating and endearing, like Ron Burgundy. And like Ron he's "kind of a big deal". Highlight: Flasking Lights

4. Desire - Pharoahe Monch
Eight years since his last album - goddamn it was worth the wait. Cerebral head nodder with supersonic syllable spitting. Highlight: Welcome To The Terrordome

5. Panic Prevention - Jamie T
The Skywalker to Mike Skinner's Yoda in terms of cockney geezer wordplay, but the quality of the tunes are a boost. Plus he really is from London. Highlight: Calm Down Dearest.

6. Back To Black - Amy Winehouse
A shambolic, drug addled life is quite often the recipe for good music. Snort on Amy! Highlight: Rehab

7. Neon Bible - Arcade Fire
The baroque density can be overwhelming at times (an ocean of noise, even) but it's still a sh*t hot record. Highlight: Intervention

8. Favourite Worst Nightmare - Arctic Monkeys
Yeah, Poms were on fire this year. Better than their debut imo, more consistent. Highlight: Fluorescent Adolescent

9. Icky Thump - White Stripes
Weird wonderful dirty and fun. Heaps of fun. Highlight: Rag and Bone

10. Good Girl Gone Bad - Rihanna
Does the list need a token pop record? Maybe. Tbh the album is seriously flawed, especially when it veers from the very good pop tunes to bland rnb (rhythm and bullsh*t), but she does boast the only umba-rella that makes people wet. Highlight: Umbrella

Shoutouts to the near misses Common's Finding Forever and Interpol's Our Love To Admire. Plus Ghostface and the Wu have albums released in the next week or two and could quite possibly jump into the top ten.
it all smells like poo

I have much higher expectations from 2008.

By far my most anticipated release will be Immortal's new one, as well as the new Opeth opus.

But also keen to hear:

Iced Earth
Kataklysm
Meshuggah
Children of Bodom

Metallica too, although that could very well turn out to be a pile of turd.

Oh forgot about them, that'll be one worth waiting for.

The Pharoahe Monch album is very good. As is the new Wu Tang album. Awesome music. I suggest everyone gets their hands on Dirty Acres by CunninLynguists. A unigue fusion of Hip Hop, electronica, dub, reggae and drum and bass. Album of the year.
