If any of those 3 hit the market we aren't the 1st club that comes to mind. We'd be lucky to be in the top 5. So to get them we'd have to pay overs, which this makes us stupid. Buying one or two guys and expecting them to change the world for you is dumb and has been proven for years on end in sports all over the world. Besides we did that with packer and matulino this year. Didn't work wonders for us.

We need an organiser really badly. Our halfback isn’t up to it. The really good, consistent sides have one or two players who are 2-3 plays ahead of everyone else and basically make ordinary players look like world beaters.

I agree about the halfback.We will get an opportunity to search for a quality game-managing halfback when Isaac the swindler moses finally completes his vengeful plan of removing his ‘small’ 4 from concord by finding brooks another employer from season ‘19.

Totally agree. If we can gain something out of it then we should part ways. There are so many different ways you can look at the situation:

- If Ivan stays then his reputation is dragged further through the mud. Brooks has said that the players would struggle to find the motivation to play for him. It would potentially be a couple of bad seasons for WT but equally bad for IC
- we could relegate Ivan to assistant coach. Bring in someone above him but this is dangerous territory from a legal perspective. His contract im sure lists "head coach" as job description. Whether he'd accept that as a compromise (in exchange for him signing to join penrith from 2021) is another matter
- Penrith and Gus look really desperate right now. Social media "experts" are saying that Nathan is not worth all the trouble and that he's not that good a player. Gus needs to follow through on his rather desperate strategy because he's gone to all the effort of punting Griffin, disrupting the 2018 season etc


I think if Ivan refuses the extension then he should be prepared to accept being relegated to assistant coach. He's not acting in the best interests of his employer by agreeing to terms with another club while he has 2 years remaining on his WT deal. In a way, Ivan would be happy to be sacked now but WT know that he gets off lightly if that happens and the club surely loses a bargaining chip

My 2 cents:

No amount of compensation - either monetary or in terms of playing talent - could fill the chasm that would left in Ivan Cleary's wake.
Many of his recruits have come to the club primarily to play under him and, furthermore, it's untenable for the players to be coached by him for the next 1-2 years knowing that he's already committed to shifting up the Northern Road immediately afterwards.
The club has had an incredibly tumultuous near-decade and, even if we manage to secure the services of Madge, it's still going to be a case of hitting the reset button. Yet again.

Its very simple....it's not about losing a marquee player....its about being compensated for losing our coach who we will probably need to replace with a better one at least....how do you think we might entice one over? With as much as we can throw at him that's how! And it may not help our cause in landing him if we load the salary cap up with penrith castoffs that perhaps he didnt want and Guss DEFINITELY didnt want ! The incoming coach should be the one signing the players HE wants...no one else...orherwise you just have more wasted seasons waiting for the "wrong fit" signings to filter out. The problem we've had with the rapid turnover of coaches and previous backended deals has been that no one coach has had the squad HE needed....we've been a drunk getting dressed in the dark for too long....a longterm former premiership winning coach first and foremost. ..take a million off Guss and top the right guy's 4 year coaching contract offer up by 250k a year to make sure we get the guy we need.
