Calvin Johnson will be first pick in the draft and Russell will fall based on his physical the other day where it was revealed his was carrying a lot of extra fat around the waist.

Also, if the Raiders get Carr or Culpepper, they have no need for Quinn or Russell, and if they kept Moss and drafted Johnson, then you have a pretty good offense all of a sudden.

They say he's lost some weight and was looking alot better at LSU's pro day so that should relieve some people. Although the worry about his work ethic still remains.

As for Calvin Johnson, I agree, the Raiders would have to be crazy not to take him. The man is a freak!

To me the Raiders will still need a QB even if Carr or Culpepper head West.

Briggs wants out, but Chicago are waiting for the best deal possible before letting him go. That offer from the Skins may be tough to beat.

according to the draft value chart the bears are getting the equivalent of a #16 1st round pick for briggs.

that's what it would cost the bears to move up from #31 to #6.

that's pretty good value for an unhappy chappy.

BATON ROUGE, La. -- More than 100 representatives from NFL teams descended on the LSU campus Wednesday to watch the auditions of quarterback JaMarcus Russell and three of his former Tigers teammates who should come off the board within the first 40 picks of April's draft.

First-year head coach Lane Kiffin of the Oakland Raiders, who hold the No. 1 overall pick and are expected to use it on Russell, was among the coaches, scouts and front-office officials on hand. Others included Cleveland Browns GM Phil Savage; Washington Redskins vice president Vinny Cerrato; Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Bruce Allen; New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton; and Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman.

While Russell is expected to come off the board long before any of those teams select, there were at least three other former LSU players worth watching -- and worth a first- or second-round pick. Safety Laron Landry could be a top-10 selection, wide receiver Dwayne Bowe is a first-round talent and Craig Davis could be selected in the early to middle portion of the second round.

Russell was the star of Wednesday's show, however. He weighed in at 256 pounds -- nine pounds lighter than at the scouting combine just more than two weeks ago and spot on his playing weight -- and ran a 4.84 40-yard dash.

"That's a pretty good time," said Todd McShay, senior draft analyst for ESPN's Scouts Inc. "Compare that to [Ohio State's] Troy Smith, who's 6 feet tall and 220 pounds and ran a 4.77."

Russell threw 75 passes during his throwing session and only missed on about four or five, according to McShay.

"His passing session was the most impressive of all the pro days I've been to," McShay said. "His footwork for such a big quarterback was surprising. He was nimble in his dropbacks and when he's rolling out and throwing on the run. We all knew coming in that his arm strength is extraordinary. The ball just explodes out of his hands. His 73rd, 74th and 75th throws, he was flicking the ball 60 yards with his wrist and putting it right on the numbers."

Other notable measurements for Russell were his arm length of 34½ inches -- "Left tackle size," McShay said -- and his hand size of 9½ inches -- "Big, but not the biggest," McShay said. "Just above the average for a quarterback."

If you watch the video, Todd Mcshay, who's covered the NFL draft for 10 years, said it was the best workout he's ever seen. He's not falling, you'd be stupid not to take him at #1. Calvin Johnson looks like a freak, but you don't take other positions over franchise QB's.

Also look at him when he's running the 40, imagine a BEAST like that scrambling out of the pocket.

the whiners show frank gore the money

ESPN.com has learned that the 49ers reached agreement with Gore on a four-year contract extension through 2011, with the deal averaging just shy of $7 million in terms of so-called "new money."

Gore will receive an initial signing bonus of $6.5 million and total guarantees of nearly $14 million. The contract will pay Gore $13.862 million in its first two seasons and $18.212 million in the first three years. Because Gore had one season remaining on his original rookie contract, the four-year extension creates a five-year deal, and the total value over the course of the five seasons is $28.012 million.

Base salaries are $450,000 (for 2007), $2.5 million (2008), $2.5 million (2009), $2.85 million (2010) and $2.9 million (2011). The contract includes a $4.165 million option bonus and roster bonuses of $1.75 million (2009), $1.85 million (2010) and $2 million (2011). Gore's full base salary of $2.5 million in 2009 is guaranteed.

Al Davis is comparing Russell to Elway so I think it's a given Russell will go to the Raiders.

If I were Davis, I'd pull out all stops to get David Carr or Duante Culpepper, keep Randy Moss and draft Calvin Johnson. Imagine the offense with all those weapons???

Still, only the Raiders know how to bankrupt a promising career.

IMO, NE and Denver will be the cream of the AFC crop next season. Indy will fall off the pace losing a few players to FA IMO.

Where is Al Davis comparing Russell to Elway?

Just an aside... I saw the Simpsons episode where Homer wanted to be John Elway... Very funny. If anyone didn't get the joke in the skit feel free to ask.
