Gould has always had a hard on for Barrett. No surprise his paws are all over the current Bulldog's interest in Barrett.

I dont get how Baz is so highly rated. Maybe one day he will become the coach that Gus believes him to be. But he is yet to actually do anything at any level as a coach that is above average.

Yet he has jobs being thrown at him and setup for him somehow. He's doing a good job in his current role. I think he would do his future more harm than good by joining Bulldogs as head coach. If he flops with them surely that would end his future chances. Realistically the next coach is almost certain to fail at that mess of a club too.

How deep is pool of potential NRL coaches atm? You've 16 NRL coaches plus maybe 5-10 of their assistants who might actually get considered for a a head NRL coaching role right now and possibly a hand full of guys in the SL. Barrett was a famous player who is part of our success atm, he probably speaks really well about the game and is well thought of by Gus and a few other famous names in RL. It doesnt take much more than that. RL is very insular. Look at Ricky, bombed at the rorters eventually, bombed at the sharks and really f**king bombed at Parra and he still got poached.

The Dogs management probably wants to make a splash with this decision to take the heat off themselves and Barrett happens to be getting credit(rightly or wrongly) for fixing our attack, the dogs attack is league worst atm.

He may another Matt Elliott. Who managed to impress just about everyone at job interviews.

I've seen enough in our attack and Manly's during his tenure there to suggest he knows something about that. His handling of off field issues at Manly come across as very immature. Same with his exit at Manly.

Your right in what you say, big gamble on his part. Better of sticking with us in the short term and wait for an opportunity where he has a more realistic chance of taking a side to the top 8.

The more I think about the Bulldogs I think it is not the right move for Trent.

Taking the job on could be his last crack at an NRL head coaching gig if it doesn’t go well, why take the risk, he would be better served staying with us, doing well which by all accounts he is and waiting for a job where he has at least some chance of immediate success, meaning a side capable of competing for the top 8.

The person that coaches the dogs next will be fired before the job is done. Better off waiting and come in after Hook or Brown have them closer to the finals

I really think Trent would be better served waiting for the Dragons job. Mary will be gone by the end of the season regardless of how this season pans out. I know they appear on paper to have the easiest draw of all sides but they are clearly going to move on from Mary. They could potentially wait until Flanagans suspension is over with but I don’t think so.

I was sure Flanagan would get the dogs job after dean pay... barrett going to the dog next year is waste, if he waits year or two ivan will step up to GM and barrett will coach panthers as gus pointed out a day ago

Agree it seems the smart long term move to build his resume at a successful Penrith, develop as a coach and wait for the right role to come around.
Realistically the only clubs that have the stability and culture to win a comp in the next few years, short of a surprise aligning of stars, are the Roosters, Melbourne, Bunnies, Panthers, Manly, Raiders and Eels. Maybe the Tigers and Knights are getting there. Unless it was your foot in the door gig, I wouldn’t really want to do the rebuild work at the others.
