Trial Vs Raiders

At the end of the day it's a trial. Same way I didn't lose my shit when we lost last week is same reason I'm not jumping for joy with this win......however.....f**k yeah that was awesome!!

What is most pleasing is that Raiders were pretty much full strength. Add Api, Brooks, Joffa and Bateman to that side.......

Klemmer, Laurie and Doueihi were stand outs for me. Klemmers presence in the middle really changes things for us. Laurie was backing up almost every play and Doeuihi really dominated that game and hand a hand in everything.

Well done boys

Defence was strong that’s what stood out for me.
Last week it was pathetic, this week it was great.
Our ball movement saw players in motion quite regularly and once we got past all the nervous mistakes of the first quarter, we really opened them up with some slick passing.
Api, Joffa, Brooks back in with Bateman eventually….some tough decisions warranted at the selection table Tuesday week.

Optimism not unwarranted but the déjà vu struck me a few times when I saw some raiders complete non efforts.

We couldn’t have done more to get Moses over the line.

It seems to me that the boys played as instructed, being novel. I could get used to it.

The first half was a pretty solid game and even though the raiders won’t play that poorly again this year, and the last 30 mins were barely watchable, the tigers would have lost to that performance last year. Things are looking up
They were saying the Raiders haven’t really brought too many this year, I think they said at one stage they had there best side on today, it was hot, but they may not be as dominant as last half of last year, they looked bottom 6 to me and Ricky will be whinging all the way, it will be fun to watch.

A question going forward , if all players are available who would be our 2 wingers ?

Unless Ken is injured, he will get one spot and probably Nofo will be on the other wing imo.

But isn't it great to have depth in a lot of positions for a change.

I think quite a few surprises are coming over the next few games.

Pretty good by the boys today, I didn’t get to see the whole game, Wakeham was good a little bit sideways at times, Tuki Simpkins done some good stuff, Staines was keen, I thought it was a nice trial. We’ve got some reasonable depth in the squad. We’ll run mid comp this year maybe bottom half next f the eight. Played a relatively mistake free game in trying conditions and that to me is the biggest take out especially with some
Good ball movement late in the game

I’m still a bit overawed by that Nado pass.

Precision footy, the startling angled romp into the defender and shoots it to an un-uncatchable sweet spot, atomic perfect.

@Kilkenny told us he still had some marquee left in him. Sage.

They rolled over in the second half, not to take anything away from the tigers though, the points they put on weren’t all that soft, raiders just had a horrendous error count, they couldn’t hold the ball. I think Savage having his jaw broken last week spooked Ricky and he took of his main players in the second half. Rapana being sent for 10 wouldn’t help cos he may lose him for a couple so he took of some of his best.

It’s a long season, we can expect every player we saw today to start at some point. Tim will be playing the whole season long game, hence multi-positional focus at training.

I hope we man up to the player code and stick up for Rapana. I’ve seen a lot worse go unpunished.

If we are going to be winning, we need to be honourable, not like some of the top 6 coaches. Robbo is excruciating.

I can recall our Doogie snitching before and I hope he’s learned something. It wasn’t very heroic

You generally find the marquee players are tough enough to handle the odd dope dog shot. Stay composed most of the time.

Any news on Kenny? He was grabbing his knee early on and I didnt see him again after that. Don’t even recall seeing him on the bench. Injured or just a precautionary sub?

I feel like Ken is perpetually injured but not enough to not be selected. I'd rather see him string some games together in reserve grade until he is 100% fit and firing.

It does seem to be that way, but you’d think the off season would have done him some good so maybe he isn’t fully repairable anymore and reserve grade won’t help.

Now there are a bunch of forwards that will actually run the ball Kenny isn’t needed in that respect any longer, that’s good news, but he may be missed finishing tries on the edge. Hopefully things are on the up there too.

While I refuse to get too excited about a trial game there were some good indicators there yesterday.

Like everyone pointed out the defence was great. Looked well organised and we were playing for each other. The go forward was fantastic. Haven't seen that for a long time. We played well in patches off the back of it. And we have players, particularly Api, to add to it. After a rocky start i thought AD was outstanding.

The most impressive thing was the comraderie within the team. The last couple of years when the cameras showed the bench it looked like they were waiting to be taken to the gallows. Yesterday they were having a great time and really looks like they're enjoying being part of the team.

I saw enough to know we won't be getting back to back spoons. We might even surprise some teams. Bring on round 1!!!!!
