Brilliant idea. It can still run into the 6 O'Clock news and we wouldn't have the hour and longer delay.

The only problem could be Golden Point and there is no way the news could be delayed as it would upset every 80 year old lady and there would be many cranky phone calls.
scrap golden point

I was hoping for a separate thread to actually make a point to channel 9, rather than swamping it in the TV Deal thread.

This forum must be run by channel 9 employees.

From everything I've read so far, although Fox have the right to stream their five games to their own subscribers, it sounds to me like the NRL still have the right to offer a package like this with all eight games live. Now that really would be a massive change from the previous deal. It might even make a few of the critics reconsider their position.

Leigh.
if they could get a HD stream going it would be massive imo

ARLC keen to stream matches in 2013

Posted August 22, 2012 20:03:23

The ARL Commission has wasted little time in turning its attention to its next rights deal, forecasting the possibility of having NRL matches streamed live on mobile devices in 2013.

A day after announcing a $1.025 billion broadcast deal, ARLC interim chief executive Shane Mattiske said talks over new media rights were already well down the track.

Mattiske also revealed the league could go out on its own in a bid to tap into the potentially lucrativemarket, which has become a far more valuable commodity under the new television deal announced on Tuesday.

Under the current broadcasting deal, live streaming was only permitted to overseas destinations - with Australian audiences forced to wait until 24 hours after the game had completed.

But under the new television deal announced on Tuesday, those restrictions have been removed in what could prove to be a financial windfall for the game.

"A key element of what was held out of the broadcast deals was our ability to deliver a stream that's simultaneous to the broadcast signal to people for viewing over mobile devices," Mattiske said.

"We're in discussions now in terms of those media rights, we're talking to range of parties and we're also considering whether or not the game should exploit these rights on it's own rather than granting them to a third party.

"I think it's something fans can expect to see in the 2013 season."

The AFL sold its new media rights to Telstra for $153 million in 2011.

Mattiske revealed the ARLC fought hard for the right to stream matches during its negotiations with broadcasters.

"We wanted to be in a position so that we can take advantage of the growth in consumption of content," Mattiske said.

your idea has been mentioned in this thread previously

if you want to make a point to 9 then ring them

it's up to the NRL to determine kickoff times anyway

Not totally related but interesting nonetheless...
The fact the NBL is doing this before one of the major sporting codes is very interesting.

Nah, very relevant.

PERFORM media are the company that host the website that Telstra stream the online matches to overseas customers at the moment, a good sign that a local subscription live streaming service is in the works for 2013 IMO.

Good find dude.

That is my understanding as well.

And I would pay for live streaming cause all I want is nfl and nrl games. Something around $200-300 a season and I would be in!

Do you get the NFL gamepass, it is awesome. I love being able to watch any of the games live, it is a great service.

It's more about being ale to watch games when I want. Hopefully they also offer extended highlights of around 15-20 mins to take in key passages for when I just want a quick synopsis of games. I have had gamepass before and if your signing up for it, go to the nfl forum here and click on my link if the gamepass thread!

Ive had it for a couple of years and love it. I support a team that does not get alot of coverage on tv in Australia (3-4 games a year). So it is a must have for me. Spent the last couple of hours watching a preseason game from the weekend. It is great for watching games when you have time to, very easy to avoid the scores to NFL games here in Australia and watch when I get home from work.

If Telstra offer the same as they did for afl can the Arlc make more than $150mill plus costs by delivering its own subscription service online?

At $100 for the season it would need 300,000 subscribers+ a year to make it worth it.

75,000 subscribers from rural areas (country nsw, country qld, png, nt) and 225,000 from metro's (Sydney, SEQld, Newcastle, ACT, CC, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide) wouldn't be far fetched I reckon. Maybe not first year but after that very achievable!

The market itself would pay more than $100 a season. You need to price it in such a way that it doesn't Canabalise season tickets etc. I could see a $150 price tag if you just wanted your teams games on demand. Maybe half price for season ticket holders.
