I'm skeptical on Mateo because last year his work rate was fairly good and at times he was a one man band trying to create opportunities

he'll up his game soon, Origin isn't far away

That had to be one of the worst games of footy I've ever watched. Both teams were shit and we just happened to pile on the shit right at the end to give them all the possession. Result seemed inevitable given the way the played. I'm surprised we were even in it (actually leading!) at one point. So terribly bad. I thought we had turned a page in the Souths game but that looks like it was just a fluke now.

I wish I had turned it over to watch the Souths V Storm game sounded like a cracker

I wonder if the Raiders failed to get that last try - on more or less their last attacking opportunity in the game - we'd be on here saying how heroic the Warriors defence was, under wave after wave of attack (albeit predictable, limited attack)?

We would have won 16-14 after sustaining about 20-30 minutes mostly under pressure at our own end. It took a try at the death from one of the freakish aerial athletes to win it but apart from that the Raiders weren't going to win.

What killed us, as we've all mentioned it here, is the turnover of possession. We were willing Canberra to snatch victory and that's what happened.

With four or five minutes to go, desperate to get up the field and kick on the sixth tackle that number 20 of ours decides to get all fancy taking the ball up? Unbelievable and it ultimately cost us.

Also, just adding to what's been said about Locke. Yes, he's lost that dynamic attacking form. I was waiting and willing for him all game to do one of those dangerous breaks from fullback, especially returning kicks, but no, he's no better at it than Gary Kemble (for those old enough to remember) who was a solid, first choice fullback for the Kiwis but hardly, if ever, broke the line returning kicks.

NYC is a rubbish comp mate, only the genuine superstars can come out of there and into NRL and be up to it straight off.

Manly had a gun NYC team in 2009, Foran and Hopoate had the goods to play NRL straight off and that was it. Buhrer, Cherry-Evans, Lussick, Warea-Hargreaves etc were all sent for the beat part of a year to play QLD Cup, spent a year playing against men and were so much better off for it

Your mob really waste a good opportunity with the Vulcans imo. And it must be disheartening for the guys playing well in the Vulcans to overlooked for guys playing so bad. I hear there is a prop absolutely carving up for the Vulcans, how disheartening for him must it be to see an unfit, overweight Packer head straight back to NRL ahead of him (no disrespect to Packer there, he plays where he gets put)

I certainly agree with the assessment on not utilizing the Vulcans. I look around the comp and see your NYC players, Fifita Dwyer before he got injured Dugan before he lost his mind Tuivasa Sheck Srama Segeyaro McCullough Hoffman The Big show prop at Brisbane, Duffie, Widdop, Reynolds, I think both Tamou and Winterstein came out of NYC, Aaron Woods... The list goes on and on of successful NYC graduates. Yet our only consistently successful one, and even that took time, is Matulino despite being consistently the best NYC club. Why such a massive disconnect? Obviously the misuse of the Vulcans is one, I can't help think there's a soft underbelly to our culture at the club an a lack of hard work in preparation. I also think the last three weeks has structurally and tactically been our football has been the best it's been in years yet those soft errors got us again.

Looking at the press conference, Elliott looks forlorn and depressed. I feel for him. Looks like his tactics have been good. At no other club would he have encountered 5/6 errors in the last 20 minutes coming out of thir red zone. It was highly unprofessional. If it comes down to a getting rd of the coach versus cutting five or six of these boles who consistently stuff up, from what I'm seeing Elliott wins every time and players have to go.

Why were they kicking it out and dead all the time, and other time wasting ploys?
Seems like they just wanted the game over...

I have to agree, some of them act like they are bigger than the club and constantly push the pass when it's not needed or fumble in our own 20 when we are on a roll only to let teams easily score

Trying to minimize Reece Robinsons counter attacking.

Hence contiually kicking to him on the full.

We do need another half such as Carney or Soward.

If Godinet is going to go, then Tommy can become the back up half / hooker.

New Zealand Warriors coach Matthew Elliott praised his defence despite their last-gasp defeat to the Canberra Raiders at Canberra Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Warriors withstood a green tidal wave that crashed ineffectively against the stoic Kiwi defensive wall before the home team snatched victory with a try at the death.
But the Warriors tactician had a feeling that his team may eventually concede due to the wealth of possession that the Raiders had in the second stanza with the home team dominating territory and hogging the ball for large swathes of the second 40.
"I think anyone that gets that amount of possession given to them is going to come back," Elliott said.
"They [the Warriors defence] stuck in. I thought our defensive effort was pretty special but I thought the play count in the second half was 95 to 40 something so you are not going to win under those circumstances.
"The second half performance was disappointing with the ball even though our defence was fantastic. When a team has that amount of quality, and that amount of ball, and basically had to break us down with kicks I thought was pretty impressive from us back there."
The introduction of the experienced Campese certainly added another game-breaker to the Raiders ranks and, in ultimately, it was Campese’s moment of magic that decided the outcome of the contest which, up until Lee’s second score, had seemed likely to go the Warriors way.
"I thought Campo was outstanding," Elliott admitted.
"His poise ended up being the difference because I felt pretty confident about our defence and they didn’t look like penetrating. They scored one try close to the line when they had four or five sets in a row so our defence was pretty good. At the end of the day it was nice kicking from Campo and Josh [McCrone} that made the difference."
The Warriors coach found some positives about the Warriors play, heading into the international break, before they face a trip to Melbourne to battle the Storm in Round 7, but was downbeat about the errors made knowing that better is required if they are to rediscover their free-flowing football of last season.
"The first 50 minutes I was happy with," Elliott said.
"We were pretty constructive with the ball, unfortunately the errors that we made were individual skill and two really poor decisions on shift plays to try and promote the ball and, as I say, when you’re down by a few it doesn’t matter how courageous you are if you make errors."

OK. Now to see what he is going to do about it. Seemed stupid to me to leave Godinet out of the 17. He, more than anyone, adds a spark to the team.

Pretty sure Godinet got injured during warm-ups, so not intentionally left out.

It took Matulino 3 seasons before he came good and consistent so lets give our latest recruits out of NYC a chance hey? (Johnson, Lousi's, Ika, Henry etc).

There has been nothing discouraging about Locke or Packer for that matter. There is no problem with our U-20 graduation.

Anyone else listen to the league chat on Radio Sport this morning ?

A caller rang up and asked Alan Mac how many metres Mannering made Saturday night, and Mac went nuts  Telfer was trying to calm him down with very little success
