but if it’s called west coast won’t it exclude other afl club fans? I remember the Melbourne Tigers in the NBL rebranded to Melbourne United because of this

Just call them WA something. Other sports use state names so I wouldn’t see a problem with that

no, theres little cross over and Dockers fans wont turn away. They'll be known by their moniker anyways ie Pirates or Bears rater than the pre wording. We alaready have professional sports clubs called:
Perth x 4
West Coast x 2
Western x 1
Fremantle x 1

WA would be the only name not used by a club, largely because its reserved for rep teams.

I’ve been there. It obviously wasn’t happy hour when I was there though. Freo has some nice pub's
5-6 every night, stock up at 5.50pm lol. Its cheaper now its been taken over. $10-11 a pint normally. $10-12 is around the avg for a pint these days in perth. Still some cheaper older pubs and clubs out there but the modern places thats the usual. Actually come down from the heady days of the last mining boom thankfully!

Just a reminder of what Bears are demanding and why we should not entertain them in Perth:

NS Board director Moore - July 2022:
non-negotiables:
- our colours; our badge;
- we want somewhere between two to four games at North Sydney Oval — one of those must be against Manly
- we want that the rights of the 18th licence will always sit with the North Sydney Rugby League Football Club.

What would work:

- A rebrand to something new that represents WA in the badge and jersey but holds the Bears brand solid
- 1 game at NSO v Manly purchased from the new club by the NS LC
- License ownership to sit with a new company called the WA (or similar) Bears ltd. The company to be owned by 75% WA consortium 25% NS LC with a board seat for NRLWA

Agreed on all that. If the NRL license is owned by NS with a majority on the board it's just asking for trouble big time .....

That would be the one thing that would lead to a disastrous outcome imo. Two reasons 1. WA fans and companies wont see it as a WA club and wont back it wit the same support it needs 2. FIFO Bears will always have their eye on a way to move FT back to NSW (and I couldn't blame them as Sydney club). The constant Sydney media talking about that would be tiresome and lead to less and less commitment by WA fans and sponsors to support them.

I dont think people realize just how much damage cutting the Reds did to RL in WA. We literally went from 10k registered players to less than 1k in 3 years! It took nearly a decade to start rebuilding and we still arent near where we where back in the early 90's. Perth losing another club would be a real death bell for the game here for decades to come. NRL simply cant afford to get this wrong.

Simplest way is set up a new company who owns the license based in WA owned by a majority shareholding of a WA consortium. You can build into the constitution of the company that no brand change would happen without the agreement of the NSFC. The NSFC would be shareholders and have a seat at the board along with the NRLWA.

West Coast Bears Sydney Membership

So to engage these alleged 220k Bears fans (lol) a Sydney club membership would be a good idea. It would require the NRL and its clubs to support it but something like a guaranteed annual fixture list of:

WC Bears v Manly (NSO)
Roosters v WC Bears v (Allianz)
Eels v WC Bears (Commbank)
Tigers v WC Bears (Commbank)
Souths v WC Bears (Allianz)

for a 5 game Sydney membership (plus any 1 game in Perth) would be a good membership to offer maybe?
I'm confident we can get 17-20k WA members from Yr1. How many NS members do you think the club could attract?

By then hopefully Souths have moved :) Yeh I guess if they can do a deal with NSW govt stadiums and clubs in them then it could include all NSW govt stadium games.

The question is will a Perth team get any outside support?

The Storm have a lot of fans in Queensland, the Pacific and also PNG. Obviously they don't go to the games but contribute to their large social media following and ratings in general.

If the Storm were relying purely on their Victorian presence they would have gone a long time ago.

Looking back during and after the Super League War, what should've happened:

*Parramatta and Balmain merge
*Canterbury and Wests merge
*Norths or Manly relocate to Central Coast
*Norths or Manly stay in Sydney and represent the whole of north sydney which includes the lower north shore and nothern beaches.

At the moment, the Wests Tigers are living a nomadic life, while Manly are only a representing a certain area. Central Coast has no team. And on a rugby league website, League Unlimited, there is a thread called "WA Bears"

Things could have been different.

Parramatta/Balmain was always a takeover. Same with Canterbury and Wests.

Thats a very strange conclusion to come to lol. Im not sure their fan base outside Melbourne contributes significantly to their annual revenue. And that's the only thing that would see a club gone is if they cant pay the bills any longer. If Perth would have much outside support? I suppose they'd have a little bit depending on where star players come from. A partnership with PNG Hunters would certainly create some opportunities for sure.

Don’t they have the most members in the competition? Sure there would be a few out of state memberships but I would suggest that by laws of probability that a fair few would be in Victoria.

Their attendances would be better than a fair few NSW teams as well.
