Looking back during and after the Super League War, what should've happened:

*Parramatta and Balmain merge
*Canterbury and Wests merge
*Norths or Manly relocate to Central Coast
*Norths or Manly stay in Sydney and represent the whole of north sydney which includes the lower north shore and nothern beaches.

At the moment, the Wests Tigers are living a nomadic life, while Manly are only a representing a certain area. Central Coast has no team. And on a rugby league website, League Unlimited, there is a thread called "WA Bears"

Things could have been different.

Those mergers are vomit inducing lmao
Awful decision if true. What’s the point of putting in a NZ or Perth and having them play home games in Sydney? Only RL as a sport could make a decision on expansion based on fans in Sydney
but but afl put a team in Sydney and the play home games in Canberra

we need to be more like afl don’t we lmao

the double standards of this forum are hilarious

Nice try but I think GWS is a joke of a model. Why would we want to follow that?

If we are going to follow a model of theirs I would be copying the Swans (btw that is not what the Bears are suggesting)

Never been a fan of mergers. Full relocations or takeovers would have been far better

We should have just relocated 4 sides from Sydney. Settled on a 16 team competition.
That's fair enough. You would still have seven Sydney teams. In my initial post with those mergers, there would've been eight. But that was the Super League War where merging was one mechanism of reducing teams.

IMO, i dislike mergers, takeovers or relocations. I wish that the Illawarra had a full time team and I also wished that Australia had a bigger population and marketplace to support promotion/ relegation.

Fair enough. At least with relocations you would have kept some of the identity whereas with a merger there is always one party that is essentially dominated.

Let’s say hypothetically you have the Magpies. The Magpies could still exist but in another location. To me that is better than their current situation where they are financially backing a side which they have no real identity with.

Haha, that’s the sort of naivety that screwed the bears. Bears will want to be back in nsw asap. They have no interest or commitment to WA, it’s just their ticket back to the big time. Nrl need nine games, if bears said they are moving back at end of a season you really think nrl will take their license back and not be able to fulfil the contract? I’ll give it 3-5 years befor the Sydney media white anting begins and the bears move more games to nsw before an eventual 8-4 split ns and gosford. Say no to the fifo Bears!
Sorry for having an opinion and actually being positive about an WA Bears team. I believe it could and would work and not everybody is out to destroy others.
I’m glad I’m not related to you, geez imagine when your parents die, could/would your siblings trust you.

Relocations only work if they are like swans and lions. None of this half hearted BS the nrl is talking about for the Bears Who will basically be a fifo club until they don’t want to be any longer.

Wtf you on about, when my parents die? Get off the crack.

WA bears could work but not the way they are proposing. It’s a recipe for disaster that would make the demise of the reds here look like something positive for the game in the West!

The only proposition that would work is 12 home games in perth, under the colors of the western reds, in the design and logo of the ns bears, and trials at nso against manly. Any other sydney match touted away from perth should play at the SFS and license to stay with NS.. if there any games aren't played in perth that should be the license disolves, have it written as a legal document... the bears existence in the top grade is now to service the state of Western Australia, not the dinosaur fans in the north shore... you still an old bears fan, go watch em play against roosters at the SFS, or rabbits and dogs at Accor, or eels and tigers at commbank... that 5 games straight off the bat... can even get dragons to play them at SFS too

It would be like the AFL team putting a team in Brisbane, but still had them play home games in Melbourne.

Why would a club that would be playing 8 to 10 games a year in Sydney, need to play a "home" game anyway?

They wouldn't, but the argument really is having both cakes and eating them too, all they'd need is 3 home games plus those 9 syd away games (if scheduled right) and they sell a 12 game sydney membership

Because their home isn’t on Anzac parade

why don’t cowboys play games in cairns or Yeppoon etc

Yeh and still they want to play home games at nso

the away games aren’t going to be played there
Still in Sydney as opposed to Western Australia, point is your taking from peter to give to paul... perth if it has a fulltime team should have a fulltime presence, bears are going to give them that... but are already able to get 9 sydney games for their north shore fans
