Well Grant told the WARL to concentrate on jnrs as a step to a club. Cumins has pumped millions into jnr development, guess what still no sign of a club 9 years later. you’d be nuts to spend on rugby league in WA without a clad iron agreement for a club,
I'm saying it would be embarrassing for the NRL to knock back a strong bid to enter a women's team. They would have to do some serious explaining to not accepting the bid. It would also be embarrassing for them to have a perth nrlw team and not a men's team. Force then into change. Sitting back waiting for the NRL to come to them isn't going to work. Get the ball rolling from this end.

They knocked back the sharks who had a much stronger bid for a womens team. Whose going to fund this ball rolling? Why would anyone throw money at a fruitless exercise?

Those who want to fund a men's team. f**k its just an idea, you really are a miserable merkin arnt you.
no, just calling out stupid ideas lol. Like I said one of the bidders has pumped in millions to grassroots and it hasnt made a jot of difference to the way the NRL view a potential Perth club. Why would a womens team, that we'd never get ahead of current NRL clubs, be any different?

Well, as I did it was just idea. I thought it might start a decent conversion on here , I don't know what I was thinking.

you should know better lol.

Its chicken and egg for investors, with no guarantee is anyone willing to throw silly money at the game here? And with no real development and investment is the NRL seeing the potential for the West?
Sadly there are not many Twiggys who are so rich they can chuck a casual $100mill at something for giggles like he has union over here.

Ideally we'd have the NRL saying who team 18 is soon so that the area, if it isn't going to be the Firehawks, can plan and build for a few years to be ready and the NRL can actually do its job and invest in grassroots growth and game marketing as well as be working on Govt to make sure the area is fertile for the new club. Either Perth or NZ is going to take some strategy, investment and time to be ready.

One area the NRL and NRLWA should be connecting better with is touch footy. It is very popular here with over 26k participants (third biggest in the country)!

Ideally NRL would announce end of 2023 that Perth is for 2027 season, properly fund NRLWA for jnr development now and cofund with the backers a NSW cup team for 2025 with admission to the NRL comp in 2027. Work with WA govt to leverage a new CofE and NRLWA HQ at Curtin Uni for NRLWA and WA Touch and schedule nrl events at HBF and Optus over the next 4 years.
You can but dream!!

With the surplus funds they will have every year and the value of the 18th game there's no reason they shouldn't be investing in real growth for the game.

How misogynistic to not even want to entertain an NRLW team. Wow.
HAHA, I'm very proud the NRLW player of the round is a WA jnr.
which has nothing to do with the fact WA isnt getting an NRLW team before an NRL team, or that it would be a good idea for someone to throw silly money at trying to make it so. Nice stretch though :)

The ARLC should fund a national academy that's linked with the Pirates to help it provide a pathway for juniors into the NRL. That will help strengthen the player pool and expand the game into a new market. If the Pirates were given an NRL licence to compete from 2027 then an academy could be launched by 2025.

I must have glazed over the post that someone suggested an NRLW team in Perth before an NRL team, so I'm not making any reference to that here.

I am of the belief that any and all future NRL clubs will be obligated to also set up a womens team, starting with the Dolphins. Whether they need to have an NRLW team up and running in their first year, I don't know, but I'd suggest within 2-3 seasons would be acceptible. If Perth is next on the expansion go-ahead list, then the same rules would apply. NRL club established, with NRLW team to also be established within a short time-frame.

Again, as I've said previously, this is where the game growth is by a long way. Even if it wasn't a requirement by the NRL, it'd surely have to be in any new clubs' best interests to at least consider it.

Annual report had womens growth up 26% in WA last year. We are supplying some real talent to the NRLW already. Getting an NRLW team up would probably be one of the easier developments of a Perth club.

Agreed. As I've also said somewhere recently, I believe there are a number of WA womens players who could be in the NRLW very soon. There are a couple that I would think could very well be in there now.

Provide a direct and visible pathway, and that number could explode. Do the Western Force (or even Super Rugby ... or whatever they call themselves these days) even have a womens team / comp?

Rumblings abound that NZ2 is the front runner for Team18. The 'home' base to be either Christchurch or Wellington. After the Dolphins debacle, I'd expect them to be given a singular name too

One of the ARLC’s brilliant ideas. We’ll just have the mascot league soon enough

A throw away comment by Abdo that’s been jumped on by the media.

4 years ago perth smashed it with nearly 39k at the games opening round double header. And some in charge thinks there’s not enough interest in rugby league in the West!967EB998-925F-4421-88C8-86AA23F0CB4D.jpeg

One-off double header against a new team playing 13 games - will the crowd still turn up if you're 2-20 and getting belted each week?

Do you ask the same question of Sydney sides? Every team with a 2-20 record would have very little people going to watch them
