Never liked QE2 really. Had to park in a dodgy car park then walk for ages (well, from what I remember) then the stands were absolute sh*t and about a billion miles away from the field. They'd have to build a brand new stadium & new stands as the current ones are ages away from the field and it'd be worse than Homebush.

I much prefer going to Lang Park even though it takes longer to get there. Plus all of the public transport in SEQ is basically funneled into the CBD so anyone can get to LP without too much hassle.

Besides, LP is the best stadium in Australia, they'd be mad not to use it. If they didn't they'd automatically become 2nd class citizens. That's why the Roar/Reds play there instead of Ballymore.

Homebush doesn't have a stadium, the are of which ANZ stadium is now it's own suburb. :D

Plus the dear seats at ANZ are awesome, only cheap supporters get sh*t seats, that's how it should be as well.

Disagree, I paid $48 at ANZ, pitch of seats is too shallow so viewing isn't great then it started raining and I got soaked!

At Suncorp you can pay for the cheapest seats there and still get an excellent view of the game. That is how it should be

No wonder so many supporters prefer to watch the game from their armchairs

A combined Ipswich-Logan team wont work because, historically Ipswich and Logan have nothing to do with each other, unlike Manly-Warringah and the likes. The re-enforce this fact, Ipswich lower grade clubs play in Ipswich competitions and Logan clubs play in either Brisbane or Gold Coast competitions, unlike for example Canterbury-Bankstown in which clubs from this area play within this area.

Combined Ipswich-Logan won't work? It would. Its a name taking in two areas for a team that will represent both. Whats the big deal?

Western Jets as the mayor of Ipswich keeps spruiking won't work simply because Springfield is almost due south of Brisbane. West of what? the beach? Gold Coast? Vanuatu? "Western" is a stupid ambiguous name. We already have the Wests Tigers and possibly WA Reds (who should be Perth Reds).

The other alternative is "Ipswich Jets", which I don't have a problem with, just it doesn't take in the whole area it wants to represent.

Finally, just because thats the way it has been with juniors doesn't mean thats the way it has to be - it wouldn't be that hard to restructure the area around the Jets. in fact it would be quite easy.

Fans to pick name of NRL side

THE name and jersey colours of the proposed western corridor NRL team will be decided by popular vote.

Early next year, the Ipswich Jets’ NRL bid team will organise a poll to discover what the Ipswich community wants its NRL team to be named.

The early favourite is the Western Jets.

NRL bid consultant Brian Canavan said it was important the club would be community-based and actively involved with its fans.

“We will not be privately owned,” Mr Canavan said.

“We will be very different to the likes of the Brisbane Broncos, and because of that we want the fans to be a part of our bid and our team from the start.

“The public will choose the colours and the name and have ownership of the team that will represent them.

“The people of Ipswich should be optimistic about getting their own NRL team.”

Mr Canavan will be in Ipswich this week for meetings with Jets chairman Steve Johnson and local politicians as he begins his feasibility study that he will present to NRL CEO David Gallop.

“The study will take about six weeks, as there has already been a lot of great work done on it by Steve (Johnson),” he said.

“There is also a business plan to write up which will be finished shortly after, and both of these documents will prove our case.”

The business plan will outline how the club will be funded in regards to sponsorship and staffing needs.

It is believed that in July next year, Gallop will officially announce whether the NRL will be granting licences to one or two new clubs for the 2013 season and what bids they will consider.

Perth is at present the favourite, over the Jets and Central Queensland.

Central Coast, which was once the clear favourite, is now just an outside chance after Sydney NRL club chief executives made it clear they would prefer a non-New South Wales region be chosen for expansion.

The Queensland Times
revealed last week that the rapidly growing suburb of Springfield will be the home for the western corridor NRL team, with a multi-million dollar centre of excellence facility proposed.

Mr Canavan said he was finalising details of a high-performance centre that would become the club’s home if they were granted an NRL licence.

That really is excellent news. It looks as though common sense is prevailing.

The Central Coast had their shot, and they didn't want to support the team that was there. Time to close that door and move on.

Western Jets is not that bad a name - allows for a cheeky game each season in the Inner Western area of Sydney...

Manly barely get support at Manly, why would anyone think they'd get support anywhere else?

I really hope they keep the name Jets. Don’t care if it’s the Ipswich Jets, Brisbane Jets, West Brisbane Jets, South QLD Jets, etc but with the arrival of the new RAAF fighters and massive expansion of Amberley airbase all timed for the next few years it would be a great tie-in for the team.

Just bring in all 3... Perth CC Ipswich. Everyone is happy!

f**k it, why not. Add a fourth team to round it out so we’re back where we were in 1995/pre-SL. :)

It’s really a pity that we can’t add all three though. I wonder if when they announce the two winning bids they’ll say “and *3rd bid* will enter the comp in ~4 years time” so at least the loser has something to aim for.

PNG for the 4th :sarcasm:

I could live with +3 for 2013. There would be a (hopefully short term) spreading thin of player talent, hopefully minimized by bringing back some stars from the UK. In 1995 we had the Super League about to go down - in the present we are not far off the largest TV deal ever, a potential windfall from gambling money, and a huge membership push strengthening every club. Is 3 a realistic option.

Most people agree that Perth is a definite.
Most people in NSW want to see the Bears get up. They have by far the strongest, most advanced bid.
Pretty much all of QLD want to see the Jets in. They have a rapidly advancing bid and the who 'QLD is RL heartland' attitude behind them.

It's hard to legitimately deny any of them.

IF you went to 4 expansion clubs, the first 3 are obvious, and the 4th would go to Queensland or New Zealand I guess.
