What if Jarryd Hayne doesn't make the 49ers cut? Will he return to the NRL?

I remember a young SF tram driver being interviewed, asked where Australia is he said not far from Germany . . . wonder how many Yanks actually know what Hayne can do

How often do you watch the NFL? I can understand the support you have for Hayne, as I do too..but you need to be realistic. There is more to the NFL then simply running and side stepping.

Well he's been on the waiver wire for 24hrs and no other team has picked him up so looks like he will be back as a Niner

They should just give him a go , they can't be any worse surely

His inability to block and read defences is what ultimately cost him at RB, the fumbles at PR just meant he didn't warrant a full time spot.

NFL teams are extremely protective of the QB, if you have a guy who can't be trusted to block, they won't be used. Can they be any worse? Probably not, but the coaching staff probably view the risk / reward stacked way too much in the risk side of the equation.

Obviously if he clears waivers, that will change given the injuries they have now, but it wouldn't surprise me if they look at signing a free agent either.

Didn't the Forty Noners play in the Superbowl only a couple of seasons ago? How did they get so shit so quick?

We only have 5 players left from that SB squad and one of them is a QB gone full genius.

Basically we had the off season from hell where it felt like half the team either quit (after the coach was sacked), retired, or signed elsewhere, including young guys who decided to retire due to medical fears (concussion etc).

I'm just going to blame Hayne, the Eels went to shit pretty quick after their 09 GF too...:sarcasm:

There's a difference between 'making it INTO the NFL' and 'making it IN the NFL'.
Pretty sure Haynes goal wasn't to play 4 games then get dropped.
It was 5 games. Which is more than anyone on the planet expected him to play.

It's in his best interest that another team gets him. 49ers are beyond awful. Can't get a touchdown to save their lives. Their only decent running back is Hyde... and because of that they have worked him too hard and his body is just getting smashed. Bush would be good if he could get through a game. But at his age he's only going to get worse and more injury prone.

Pretty sure he doesn't. He seems to think Hayne is Rodgers, AP, Gronk, Julio Jones, Revis, Watt and Von Miller rolled into one.

I can watch world class Snooker all day but can't sit through a game of NFL, and I understand exactly what both 'sports' are trying to do . . . in NFL it's the need to use hype like they do artificial meat in their burgers I don't like

The artificial meat clearly works then... $11 billion+ in annual revenue, the most of any sports league in the world.

Your posts show a clear lack of understanding of the game, which is fine, not everyone is into it. It is however an extremely popular sport, not just inside the US.

Here's a tip, rugby league players aren't necessarily the best athletes in the world, neither are NFL players. They have specific skill sets for their relative codes with some similarities. I'm sure there are some NFL players that could make an impact in the 2nd row, center or wing positions, just like there are a few league players that might make be able to make it over there as well... Any 'code-swapping' wouldn't revolutionise the game or teach the relative code a thing or two however.

Hayne to be honest, has been a massive shock that he has gotten as far as he has, but even then he is a fringe player and it could take a number of years to go beyond that... He has a more versatile skillset than many NFL players, but he is a master of none of them in comparison at this point in time.

Exactly, the NFL is such a structured sport that Hayne had no chance of picking it up and running with it from day dot. He needs to spend a lot more time around the game to learn it and become comfortable. He has the ability to get there but with Tomsula under so much pressure he seemed reluctant to gamble on Hayne.

in saying that, its getting to desperation station in niners town. the play-offs are gone but they are now tracking to be the worst performing niners side in a decade. at some point changes will be made in either the coaching or roster.
