A movie has entered my personal list for the worst movie I've watched in 2021....Im a bit over 50 minutes into it but "Night School" (Kevin Hart) is bloody disgraceful.

Moonstruck. [ 1987 ]

Went and saw this at the Randwick Ritz yesterday, wonderful romantic comedy set in New York with Cher and especially Olympia Dukakis giving exceptional performances. Have seen this movie on DVD before but was great seeing it on the big screen, a good crowd in and lots of good belly laughs.

Horrie, do they show any other 80s movies at the Ritz? If so I might have to make the journey over.

They show quite a few retro movies there, i always check out the Ritz and also the Cremorne Orpheum to see whats on or coming up , there is a few Coen Brothers films coming up at the Ritz.

Moonstruck was a joy to see, i have always liked it but got even more out of it seeing it on the big screen.

I was thinking about it and I realized I have been to the Ritz before. It was in 1992 and I saw the Mark Little film Greenkeeping.

It would have been a single theatre back then, in the late 90's they added extra cinemas but the whole building/complex has kept its beautiful art deco charm and the main theatre is still the original with upstairs and down stairs, yesterday it reminded me of some of the old theatres in the city which are long gone. The bar was a lovely place to sit and have a drink and there is an outside balcony also off the bar. It actually felt like an event going to the movies yesterday like it did back in the 70s .

I have only been there 3 times to see a movie but yesterday was the first time i had a chance to have a good look around and enjoy the ambience of the place because we were there early, the last movie i saw there a few years ago was Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool and it was free tickets so we had to queue out on the street so didn't get a chance to check things out, the time before that was when it was the single theatre and it was straight in straight out.
In my years of living in Kingsford i never went to the Ritz even though it was only a 15 minute walk from where i lived, Randwick also had the Odeon theatre on the corner of Hight St and Belmore Rd and i saw plenty of movies there.

Cher won Best Actress in 1988 for her performance in this movie (beating Glenn Close for Fatal Attraction, Holly Hunter for Broadcast News, Sally Kirkland for Anna, and Meryl Streep for Ironweed) whilst Dukakis also won Best Supporting Actress for her role also. The movie's third Academy Award was for Best Original Screenplay.

Some other trivia from the film.

Anne Bancroft and Maureen Stapleton were considered for the role of the mother but their asking fees were to high and the role went to Olympia Dukakis.

Peter Gallagher was considered for the part of Ronnie, both he and Nicholas Cage screen tested with Cher and the studio wanted Gallagher after the screen tests but Cher wanted Cage because he could do crazy more realistically and said she wouldn't do the movie if Cage wasn't cast.

Cher mentioned to Olympia Dukakis during filming that she though the film was going to be a dud because she thought she was giving a bad performance, how wrong was she .

If I had to vote right now for most under rated movie I would go Edge of Tomorrow.
It does not have the greatest ending, but the concept and the first 70 minutes or so are great and I find Cruise to be funny in it. Each of his deaths where he screams like a women is good stuff.

It's a great movie. Tom Cruise isn't the kind of person I would want to have a beer with but most of his movies are very watchable.
