What Movies Have You Seen III

I counter your Red Skull with whoever the central goon was in Thor 2, don't even remember the name. Loki saved that movie to make it watchable at best, he might be the only compelling villain they've managed.

All the rest are a generic cardboard-cutout, you could throw in Whiplash, Ultron, Ronan, Bucky (to some extent), the evil hulk (forget the name), Killian in the long list of failed bad guys. Sounds like the new Dr Doom sucked too, and the Mandarin was a colossal f*ck up.

It baffles me how they manage this given how rich the source material is.

I agree completely.
Although I liked the Mandarin twist in IM3. It just came so far out of nowhere I couldn't help but enjoy it.
Both Whiplash and Ultron could have been much better if their respective films weren't more interested in setting up future movies.

L.A. Confidential 9/10 - this is the top shelf of it's genre, you won't see too many character studies better than this

Top shelf movie. One of my faves.
Gets a 10 from me.

Nightcrawler with jake gylenhaal 6/10. Bit slow for me and a weird storyline IMO. In fairness I don't really understand the media, the way they work or particularly like them

I f**king loved Nightcrawler.
Gyllenhaal was so perfect in that role.

Saw Straight Outta Compton last week, pretty entertaining and that's coming from someone that's generally not a rap fan (though I do like the few NWA songs that I am familiar with). Particularly enjoyed Ice Cube's son as Ice Cube, he pretty much was Ice Cube. Also Suge Knight would appear not to be a homie to mess with yo.

Caught Sicario the other night, having heard almost nothing about the movie (aside from catching about 10 seconds of the preview). Kinda hard to say exactly what I thought of it, I enjoyed it but came away feeling a little underdone.
Had a similar vibe to No Country For Old Men, first and foremost due to the setting (the dusty borderlands of USA/Mexico with crims and authorities having at each other in dubious circumstances), also the slow burn pace interspersed with moments of action and rising tensions just waiting for that moment of it all suddenly going horribly wrong. Also a softly spoken cold as ice badass killer with unknown (at first) motivations, and Josh Brolin.

Finally saw Southpaw last night. I loved it and can't really fault anything Sutter has to do with. I had an emotional response on more than one occassion during some pretty intense scenes.

And Sicario on Monday. Benicio was so f**king bad ass and I usually don't like him.

remember reading in random mobie facts that for nightcrawler jake would run 15 miles each way to the set from his house. Some of the days were 16+ so that just zoned out, exhausted, distant look was real and as well as losing 15kg to go from a skinny physique to border line unhealthy gradually lost his mind and eventually had a complete break down on set.

It worked

Everest. Didn't know what to expect. Once it started, being a Kiwi I remembered it being a massive story so in a way I knew the ending. That said, the cinematography was great, and it was a very gripping emotional movie. They did well selling the commercialisation of the mountain and the health risks in climbing that high. Highly recommend.

San Andreas best be good, the wife is forcing me to watch it tonight. If it sucks I'll just request a Wristie to get through it.

The Nightcrawler would have been half of what it was without Jake's performance, he was ridiculously good.

In fact he's one of the great character actors going around today, no two performances are the same.

Just watched Inside Out.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Pixars best work. Better than Toy Story. Better than Up. Smart, funny, sad, engaging. One that tugs at all the heart strings.

A must see for all ages

Going to the movie tonight, tossing up between The Martian, The Intern, Sicario, Everest, and The Visit.

Yes, I can't decide which to watch.. anybody seen any of them? I'm leaning towards The Martian.

What exactly did you find good about it? It was pretty average. Home shits on it from a great height.
