Who replaces Cappy?

Kearney had the best coaching apprenticeship there was to be had too, but his NRL stint was pretty abysmal. No idea if Kidwell would cut it, but I wouldn't risk it. I'd cleary go someone proven.

Kearney got a poisoned chalice to be fair. I mean f**king Parra....

This won't be popular, but I'd be tempted to give Kearney a go if all else fails.

To be fair I don't think McFad is a complete failure, he's a young C grade coach getting C grade results with a B+ team.

What about looking at someone who's been out for a bit, C Anderson, Sheens or even Smith, perhaps in an advisory role.

Also some Assts, Cartwright, Kearney, could be options, Cleary, Toovey.

Or f**k it, poach someone, the talent us there and money talks... Madge, Robinson, Arthur, even Henry or Green

They need to go out and hunt, as we've seen the big names won't come

In no way shape or form am I a Cappy fan....but is he that close to getting the boot?

We've played most of our season without the best fullback in the competition. Have also had 3 golden point losses. Aside from the shit start to the year, someone's done something right for this team to compete the way they have for 9 of the last 10 games.

If you're the manager, are you thinking Cappy will do an even BETTER job with RTS and potentially Foran, and a slightly more experienced team? I'm not so sure he'll get the boot even if we don't make the finals.

If it was up to me he'd be gone. I think this team has been largely underwhelming even with those points. We seem to struggle to come up with points on attack - we don't have any cohesion in the opposition 20. We had two intercepts against the Titans, a barge over from Kata last week, and I rekon he's got about 4 or 5 of those from close range this year....our players aren't being coached well enough. The defence has improved dramatically though...is that something Cappy can claim? And don't even get me started with his selections regarding the bench. We've essentially been competing most of the year with 16 players. Just dumb coaching.

We've also had 2 golden point wins, a few other close wins too and are far from the only team to be down a key player for more than half the season. We also (as others have pointed out already) effectively only need to finish 9th (in real terms) to book a finals place.

Cappy might do a better job with RTS & Foran... but he may well waste the best premiership opportunity (in terms of personnel) in the history of the club. These windows don't stay open long - fail to take advantage and you can be looking a very long stretch in the wilderness indeed. Given what we've seen from him, that's not a risk I would be willing to take. We swallowed him this year because we just couldn't sack another coach in that short a time-frame, but there are no excuses that should save him this time. This has been his team for 2 full seasons, and 19 games of a 3rd season. We haven't seen results.

Sheens, Smith, Anderson... no, no and no.

Of available experienced FG coaches, Cleary & Toovey are pretty much it. Maguire could become available, would be worth a look. Otherwise look at the best, experienced lower grade coaches. Garth Brennan, Walker bros immediately stand out there (side note; our former assistant Adam Mogg is currently coaching the first placed team in the QLD cup).. Brennan been getting results out of lower grade teams for years at Panthers & Knights, and the Walkers are doing a really good job at actually coaching guys - they just lost their fullback, halves, hooker, lock and starting prop and still in finals contention this year..

The other option is our defensive coach this year.. Justin Morgan. Experienced (years both at Hull KR and as an NRL assistant), knows (and is already at) the club (and the squad)... might be a decent bet.

Justin Morgan...I reckon it's a real shame he's probably no chance of being the next head coach. I don't believe anyone would have the stones to appoint him. As people are saying, it's probably got to be a proven head coach. The pressures on someone like Morgan, someone the average fan doesn't know, would be horrendous. But Justin Morgan is a quality person who I believe has done wonders defensively with this side. It was attitude that saw us fall off 10000 tackles on Saturday, not structure. Our defense has been great for months. He's worked directly under Bellamy - he'll go somewhere else and be successful, I have no doubt about that. I reckon he'd be a great fit for the Dragons if not us. I'd have him but I know the odds are too high.

Jim Doyle HAS to be in a position where he's got someone who can step in by November if we don't make the finals. I know he'd deny it publicly but if he's done his job as a CEO, he has to have canvassed his options. If he hasn't, he should fall on his sword. He has made too many statements saying missing the finals is not an option for us to accept it now.

Can anyone say we have improved under McFadden? Are we better than 2014? Personnel wise we are but our results are no better. We're in exactly the same position as 2013/14, and this squad shits on those.

What jase says is exactly right. If Foran comes, and say we also sign a Sam Moa, a Paul Vaughan or someone like that... can we risk that level of squad under a guy who has failed three years in a row, and has no coaching success at any level nor as a player? He's never won anything. Yet we'lll entrust him with one of the strongest rosters in the comp? Nah. That's how I feel about this year. Injuries no doubt, but I feel like we'd be timing a run near the top 4 with Ivan, a Maguire, even a Toovey. The Dogs are a bog average side coached well sitting in fourth. With our HUGE advantage of having 14 games at home etc etc (all shit I've said before) the coach has already botched it. There's nothing to say he deserves another chance. No big wins this year to hang his hat on, nothing. In fact, how many big scalps does McFadden have in 2.5 seasons? Melbourne twice, gee I can't think of many others.

If Doyle hasn't contacted possible contenders and drawn up a shortlist already I don't think he has done his job.

So if Jim true to word Cappy gone.
Can only make the 8 now if we win next 2 and Titans lose both.

It's still a chance, if the Panthers beat the Titans. We're rubbish but the Cows might have troops back for rd 26 v the Tits, and as woeful as we are we'll be favourites v the Teddy-less Tigers and Eels without a whole swag + also out of contention

the moment we stop pissing around with Vatuvei/Maumalo type wingers is the day we start getting into the finals.
Yep. f**k off with this foran signing. Use that money to sigh Jordan kahu and David mead for the wings and play manu and maumalo in the second row or reserves

Oh yeah, but it would save McFuddle his job. So I think for our long-term sanity, it's best the Titans beat the Panthers.

short term pain for long term gain?

But i dont want another inexperienced coach. Not prepared to risk investing in Justin Morgan.
We will just keep going round and round in circles.
But how do we entice a decent coach here?

Absolutely. It's been a sick feeling half wanting to miss the 8 but it's necessary.

How do we entice one? Good question. That's what our CEOs job is. He's done wonderfully with player signings, he now needs to deliver a new and effective coach.

Ask them what they want, and then negotiate from there.
