Browny literally handed over a premiership winning team to Bennett and he added the polish. Browny has learned heaps now and will be a much better man for it. Look at Bennett in Newcastle, he has really done nothing. Browny should get credit for Bennett's success as he did not have to do much to succeed just mentally prepare them better.

He was a rookie give him a break and got the Saints to finals most seasons. What happens in finals is a lottery. Saints had heaps of injury issues when Browny was coach, Bailey and Ryles hardly started many games, Barrett had multiple halves partners and Gasnier had injuries that had him out for a season at one stage. He never really had them at full strength much of his time. Maguire and Cleary are looked at as being great coaches and they have had similar success as Browny in the NRL if not better.

How do people know that Brown has improved ? The old boys club has to be broken up and the closest I want to see it remain is Mary as assistant to an experienced succesfull outside coach that can change the whole dynamic of the playing group. It all points to Sheen for me. His Australian gig won't hurt us in chasing some elite players in the future as well.

No so sure about that. Apparently he still does some work for the Saints in England and Mike Cooper was a Browny recommendation. He has not completely cut his ties with the club. Anything is possible.

When asked if Browny will come back to us,his best mate here in Sydney laughed and said no way.

I don't think they were overrated, if anything, they were poorly coached. Brown had a great side on paper, but they never played all that well as a team. One week Barrett would play well, but Ryles would have a shocker...the next week Young and Timmins would play well, but Barrett would have a shocker.

I watched some highlights of the 05 preliminary final against the Tigers and some of the defence in that game was a disgrace considering what was at stake. They didn't deserve to be in a GF with defence like that. Poor structures and poor attitude.

And the year before we were down by 24-0 down after 20 min v Penriff.Just think Browny's coaching inexperience showed up especially in finals, the 05 finals game v scum in Wollongong we were also lucky to get away with that one also.

Lol...
If brown was still in charge in 09 and 10 we would still be discussing another 2 seasons of potential, finishing 3 or 4 on the ladder only to be frustratingly bundled out in the finals... Not 2 minor premierships, 1 premiership and a world championship....

The debate over Browny is irrevelant!! Because Mary will endup getting the gig

GaryW .......Mary was always getting the job....Doust has played everyone once again...... The Bennett saga was never going to happen........ It was Mary from the start......

Bingo....I will be Shocked if our incompetent board doesn't announce Mary as next years coach. It will probably be followed with upgraded deals for Harrison/Groat/Green/Hunt/Ailomai/Makata etc.....

Why do people pick on poor Ailomai,he is a runaway bull and hasn't been considered.Would have given us the mongrel we have been craving all year. And his defence is no worse than AhMoo.

I think you are on the money Hazz.

More of the same 1980's style smokescreening and bullshit with so called offers that never really existed from Doust. Things quickly leaked to the press about Bennett's deal but no formal offer tabled, supposedly talked to Henry when at the coast ,sure he may have talked to him but was it to do with offering him the coach's job, who knows, it was good enough story to let the press know once again but no substance to it, because Mary has been the one since the get go ,he's the only coach they can afford .

Can we afford not to make the finals again next year?

Big difference from cutters to first grade....If the Roosters didn't rate him...then that speaks volumes.

Do tell please.

It just seems to me that everything is shrouded in "secrecy" when it suits the club ,ie comments made about things happening in the background,to me thats just cover for nothing much being done at all as is evidenced by us supposedly in the hunt for a number of players for next season in the forwards and they have headed elsewhwere.

Then when it suits they leak to the press when the heat is on the club about their poor handling of just about everything and think everyone is dumb enough to cop it.

On the supposed things going on in the background if they were so good i'm sure they would be trotted out for all and sundry in the press, not hidden to avoid criticism, it is after all a rugby league football club not the CIA.

Bennett obviously played Doust, he was too desperate to see it.

For all the members who support the idea of giving Mary the head coach job I say:

Do you really think Mary is getting the best out of his players. I mean:
Are Merrin and Dugan playing to their full potential? Should Ah Mau, Stanley and Rein really be in the first grade side?
Do you see good shape in attack and defense?
Do you have confidence in the players playing to a good game plan?
Do you see confident Dragon players on the paddock?

Well there's no way to know if a different cach would be getting more out of the players, they have all improved noticeably. Dugan has mostly been more effective under Mary, yes we miss his kick returns but our right side is more dangerous with him there, his defence is improving, his reads are improving and most important I've noticed gradual improvement in his hands, which if he is going to reach his potential he needs to keep working on. I can only assume coming up in Canberra he and his coaches figured his running game was enough and they didn't work much on passing so he has a lot of ground to make up. Merrin has been quieter since coming back from injury, but he is also pushing low percentage options less which is a good thing. Ah mau should be playing less minutes, but he has been consistently better under Mary then any time previously. Stanley iss trickier, haven't seen much to say he's a worthwhile hooker replacement, but I personally think he still has enough potential to keep in the squad of 25. Rein has definitely improved under Mary, he is certainly the best 9 in the club and while he has plenty if room to improve the constant bagging here is a bit like a nun on a unicycle - vergin' on the ridiculous.
The shape in defence and attack has improved, but they do have bad habits they fall back into too often and that needs plenty of extra work. The board has clearly been rubbish with planning over the years and it would be best if there was a clean out there no doubt. Reappointing price last year should have seen them all commit seppuku in disgrace if they had any shame. But if they do go with Mary I'll be prepared to give him a fair go as I don't think there's many coaches who could have made more of a positive difference given the position he started in.

:lol:Wow, this takes a special kind of doofus to misread so badly. Suggesting the board should disembowel themselves is promoting incompetence? Hint, maybe if a words not in your vocabulary you can put it in the google machine and educate yourself before insulting others.
