Wing in Parramatta's sights

OK. Someone needs to explain this to me.

A few weeks/months ago we heard in here that DA took information to the new board about how far stretched we are with the salary cap.
How is it now that we are able to sign Justin, Shane and are talking about Wing???

Yes I know that there are going to be some players not re-signed to contracts that expire at end 09, but these are NOT big money players compared to the 2 we have signed and the 1 we are talking about here now
My guess is that after that meeting, DA went back over the squad and has decided which players he won't be resigning, and which players he might tell can look elsewhere and get a release from their contract for next year (like Finch did), freeing up some decent money.

I'm thinking of the guys DA has tried in firsts and dropped to Wenty being prime candidates for the chop (Cordoba, Smith, Oake, Hauraki etc). If you lose five or six players that aren't in the plans for the top 17 going forward, then you can save money afford to buy three good ones who are, and develop the younger ones.

We are releasing/not re-signing 7 players from this years roster, plus new sponsors who will act as 3rd party sponsors=new signings. Finch and Cayless's salary alone would be around 700-750 grand.

And we are extremely close to signing Wing. I would play him at 9 if we get him, good halves backup as well.

2010 Team.

1-Hayne
2-Inu
3-Unsigned Centre
4-Reddy
5-Grothe
6-Mortimer
7-KK
8-Poore
9-Wing
10-Fui
11-Hindy
12-Shackleton
13-Mateo

14-Matt K
15-Joe G
16-Mannah
17-Latimore/Junior P

Good times ahead.

Hey,
Do you no more thank anyone else about thw Wing situation?
Are we actually really close to signing him?

Tbh a few weeks a go i all but against signing Craig Wing, but from seeing him over the last couple of weeks and in origin i truely think he would be wonderful to have.

well the only player that Musashi believes we're releaseing who is under contract is Caylo...

now lets assume that's correct.

Caylo
Lowrie
Wright (Brod)
Cordoba
Etu
Kingston
Robson

are all players off contract (except Caylo)

Paulo
Horo
Latimore

are also off contract.

Caylo
Cordoba and
Hauraki are the only 3 outa 7 I know for sure.

that's interesting, both Caylo and Weller are still under contract meaning that they're going have to find another club that is willing to pay what they're on.

Hauraki might get a gig at the Tigers..... Sheens is always looking for backrowers who can play front row at a pinch.

Cayless is under salary cap concessions. Why would we let him go?
I'd be suprised if he was released early at the end of 2009.
Poore and Shack also need the same sort of help that Cayless and FFMM need this year. I'm hoping DA can fit them all in, otherwise all we're doing is swapping players.

I can't say that i'm disappointed to hear any of those 4 names mentioned by Musashi. I personally dont have a problem with Cayless but for the money he is 'apparently' on, i'm sure there are alot of other avenues that we could better invest this money. As for Cordoba, Lowrie and Hauraki absolutely no problem whatsoever with these guys departing.

I was told today by a Kiwi at kids sport this morning that the Warriors were in talks with Cayless.

I don't know how I'd feel about Caylo playing against us....maybe I'm too sentimental but it will feel weird if that was the case.

I'd be very surprised if the Warriors would foot his entire pay packet though. If he was to sign with them it would sound like we'd still be paying some of it for 2010. Hopefully the ESL is more likely.

TBJ I thought it was unlikely simply because there was press a few months ago which stated that we had backended his contract and 2010 was a huge pay year for him.

Yeah, I thought I remembered something about that too. Won't be easy to offload him.
