Brown warns Wigan over Dragons
![]()
Saturday 26th February 11
Wigan Warriors will have to be at the top of their game if they are to get the better of St George Illawarra in tomorrows PROBIZ World Club Challenge, according to the former Dragons coach Nathan Brown.
The Huddersfield Giants boss was in charge of St George for six seasons up to the end of 2008, when he made way for the arrival of Wayne Bennett and headed to England, and he knows how difficult they will be to topple at the DW Stadium.
Theyre hard to beat are the Dragons, said Brown. They wouldnt give a poor man a feed. They just give nothing away, absolutely nothing.
Thats the big challenge for Wigan. Theyre quite resilient about what they do.
The Australian champions will go into tomorrows game without Bennett, who flew home on Wednesday night to be with his gravely-ill mother-in-law, and have also had to contend with a 12,000-mile journey and a marked drop in temperature.
That, according to Brown, could help even up the contest, as the Dragons seek to complete a hat-trick of wins for NRL clubs following recent victories over Leeds Rhinos by Manly Sea Eagles and Melbourne Storm.
The big thing going against them is that they played a game in Australia a week ago and flew over, said Brown.
Theyve had limited time here and a lot of their players have played 40 minutes of footy whereas the Wigan guys will be much more match-hardened because theyve had two premiership games and two or three friendlies.
All those things make the game more interesting. It should be a good contest but St George are a very hard team to beat and Wigan will have to play very well to beat them.
Theyre capable of doing that, theyve got a good coach and plenty of good players.
But, if the Dragons are prepared, they will be very, very hard to beat. Theyve been the top side in the NRL for the last two years.
They wont give Wigan anything, whereas pretty much all the sides in England, at some stage give you some opportunities to do okay.
Saints just keep putting the ball in the bottom corner and chase and keep making you work hard.
Brown, who will watch the match on television after Huddersfields home game against Hull FC, admits he will have divided loyalties over the fixture.
He said: Theres a real part of me that wants to see the Dragons win because Ive got so many friends there and theres a part of me that would like to see the English do well because Im in the English game and it would be good for the game over here.
This is what the Wigan people have to say about us....

Interesting how they are commenting on Jeremy Smith, Jarrod Saffy, and Deano.
