Your average casual gamer doesn't see it that way though. I agree with you but the casual market heavily outweighs the hardcore. Casual gamers may just walk over to the PS4

Here's how this is gonna work.
I'm gonna buy the better of PS4 and Xbone within a year of release.
I'm gonna buy a WiiU as soon as as a decent Zelda or Mario is released.
And i'm gonna buy the last one when it's massively price dropped years later, for the few exclusives I missed.
Exactly how I handled the last generation. Worked out swimmingly.

Your average casual gamer, like me, just wants something to play games on. With a new game console I simply want something I can turn on, put in Elder Scrolls VI and play it without having to deal with all of this other shit microsoft has put on this thing. What they should be focusing on improving is the graphics, the memory, the engine and fixing the bugs and the crashes that plagued the 360. You know, things for a better gaming experience.
Instead they focused on tv, foxtel, internet, kinect, voice command, game installation and prohibiting sharing games or used games.

This is why i am waiting until e3 to truely pass judgement...

I think its actually smart of them to show very little games at this event because it free's them up to do something they have been much maligned for in the past which is using e3 for what it should be used for GAMES!!!!

And revealing 15 games inclusing 8 new IP's at E3 will make them seem like they are catering to the Hardcore gamer market (unless a majority of those titles are Kinect trash...) When in fact its just them presenting what they should be presenting at a games expo...

But Apple has been Microsofts main competitor for a long time and its no secret that they want to challenge Steve Jobs claim to owning your lounge room and owning every screen in your house. They dont care about the Ps4 really... and it could be there downfall.

All this TV, foxtel rubbish doesn't interest me one bit (especially given I already have foxtel) and I'm not interested in the Kinnect function either

I just want to put a game into the console and have a crack for a few hours. I don't go online all that often

Not that Microsoft will be losing any cash as I haven't bought an X-Box, never got past the thinking about it stage with the 360

EB did something similar after the PS4 announcement, IIRC it was $1000

I asked in store and a $100 deposit is what they were asking for up front

I laughed at the guy behind the counter and wandered off

That's why there is such greed in the industry that f**ks the consumer at every chance possible "it doesn't affect me so I don't care" such a shit attitude towards consumer rights.

Spot on, people are such goddamn sheep they will buy the thing not realising this crap is the thin end of the wedge. Eventually these companies will screw you over with something you do give a damn about.
The power of the consumer- If people weren't such techno whores and could actually say no to these companies rather than jumping through hoops for the priviledge of supporting them...it would be a buyers market not a sellers one. If you do not agree with what they are doing with these no machines, just say no. These policies make this an immediate no buy for me, I just can't buy it on principle. If Sony do similiar they can piss off as well. I feel that strongly about it- Once I buy a game, it's mine, they have no right to dictate nor profit from the same game. It's disgraceful and greedy. I find it baffling people are fine with it.

It's the anti-consumer shit that is turning me off the XONE bigtime. The PS4 being so much more powerful is simply going to make my decision easier.

I can't understand brand loyalty when the brand obviously doesn't care for the people buying it...

Totally agree with you. Brand loyalty is crazy IMO

Performance does. Let's not forget that nobody really took advantage of the PS3 capabilities as it is, a lot of it to do with essentially dumbing down a game for the 360 to make them cost effective.

If PSN stays free and with a premium service as they do now I'll probably go back to Sony or if PSN does go to paid subscription as long as I have the option to play in "offline" mode without charge I'm in.

Bottom line for me is I buy a console to play video games on not to watch youtube or NFL or Netflix or any of that other crap that Microsoft have been concentrating on in recent years so my decision is down to PS4, PC or none at all.
PS3 and 360 ended up being a wash in terms of performance. PS4 had more theoretical performance but it was hard as a bitch to program for and had to be extremely specialised development pipeline to take advantage, so only guys like Naughty Dog managed it. Rumours circulating suggest PS4's development platform is even better than MS's this time, so Sony have taken big steps forward and MS's have gone backwards. In realistic terms, PS4 had a weaker GPU and a more complicated memory architecture which meant that straight forward development methods gave the advantage to 360 most of the time.

Next gen looks a different story. They seem to have started with almost exactly the same AMD hardware. Where they differed was their approaches to memory - originally PS4 was going to have 4GB of GDDR5 and One was going to have 8GB of DDR3 with embedded ESRAM. This would have been pretty close in practice. But MS's approach meant that more of their silicon budget had to go towards the eSRAM, while Sony spent it on compute units to make the GPU stronger. Sony then got lucky that bigger capacity GDDR5 chips became available so they bumped it to 8GB, they took a bit of a gamble on a technology that only just became ready in time.

In truth the specs are very advantageous to PS4, much more than PS3. If you add the maximum theoretical power of two WiiU's and an Xbox One together they still don't match PS4 due to Sony spending more on the GPU.

In practice this will probably be a difference similar to Xbox over the Gamecube. But I don't think multi plats will show big differences, only a few games back then really took advantage of Xbox so I think it will be similar here.

Honestly they couldn't have made this less appealing. Remember the patent filed a while ago for Kinect to monitor how many people are in the room and if it goes past a number defined by the content provider it will ask you to purchase a new licence.

What a disaster. Who wants an always on camera watching and recording what you do. Not me thank you. Who enjoys yelling at their tv to get it to do stuff.

I might be old fashioned but I'd rather not let a giant corporation spy on me for presumably target advertisements. Just look at how the 360 dashboard has gotten less gaming focused on each update.

ill be giving this a miss

I was just reading that Kinect will count the number of people in the room and charge a fee or stop content if it exceeds the allowed number of people for the content. So basically you need to buy "tickets" to watch movies

Has Microsoft gone insane?

I read that kinect always stays on even when the xbox is off, meaning unless you put something over it or unplug it there's a camera watching you while you sleep.
I also read that with that camera and Skype a friend can call you and appear on your screen while you're watching a movie or sports or possibly utilising that rare game-playing feature.

The thing is though, you can't play the game while Skypeing. So people are just going to troll eachother with Skype calls :p

They patented it a few years ago. Doesn't mean it will happen but it could. They could in theory have the microphone monitor for keywords and produce target advertisements for it. Can't wait for the future of gaming that when you ask your partner what she wants for dinner an npc appears in game telling you about the brand new pizza at pizza hut press x to order

Its bad enough that I am next to sure that we will have to talk to the tv to get the dog to work in cod. That's gonna be pretty sweet having to yell something like ATTACK DOG at the tv getting progressively louder because it struggles with Australian accents.

A new report said that currently Skype calls are monitored despite the claim They're not. Would love to see that one confirmed.

This is just fail after fail.
