* Michael Jackson - incredible voice. People can say what they will about his private life, but the man was a megastar.

* Freddie Mercury - like Jacko, he was above pretty much everyone else on the planet.

* Mikael Akefeldt - the way he can seamlessly switch from death metal-style growls to angelic clean vocals is amazing.

* Andrea Bocelli - his duet with Sarah Brightman for "Time To Say Goodbye" brings a tear to my eyes every time. Amazing voice.

* King Diamond - this dude...His range...Wow.

Apart from the australian idol winners, right? All the old singers are hard to beat. My nonno played a lot of Giuseppe Di Stefano, whom I rate. And Dean Martin.

Other dudes: Sam Cooke is number one, Solomon Burke, Frankie Valli, Orbison.
Chicks: Dusty Springfield, Karen Carpenter, Mama Cass, Aretha. Also the chick from mulholland drive with the spanish version of Crying:

Grew up with a nan and pop who listened to a stack of ella Fitzgerald and I have to say her voice was absolutely golden.

As a hardcore kid I'd have to say baina from her nightmare is king. Vicious deep growls, dude has an amazing presence.
