If the AFL can’t make it work in Western Sydney then the NRL are no chance for a second side in Melbourne. The Storm have excellent support but they’ve consistently been successful and have one of the ATG coaches. Very hard to replicate.

Storm are doing well here most vics who are interested in sport take an interest in them.

As someone said they have plenty of building to go, they have their niche in the Melbourne sporting landscape and are very accepted. However, there is zero interest in a second team.

A western Victorian team based in Geelong probably isn’t the worst idea. A west vs east rivalry with the storms. Would need a rectangular stadium built though.

Perth. Established junior league, willing franchise and supportive state government. Perth also has a Rugby League history and gets good crowds to NRL games already played there.

Melbourne has a bigger longer history

No the article stated that the PNG side are the favourites not a Pacific side. It also suggested via Shane Richardson that instead of basing them in Cairns they should be based in Brisbane because frankly Cairns doesn’t have the infrastructure and it would be eating into the Cowboys; which are both very valid points. Then you had but but the Bears thing.

There was no mention of Pasifika based in Brisbane.

The biggest negatives noted in the article was that the government support would last 10 years - that is nowhere near long enough. Then also the Melbourne 2 idea which is completely left field
