Probably should have another thread for this line of discussion. Can't argue with that and the hierarchical system should work. PNG have had that for a very long time but you have to have something to tie them to like well-organised competitions. Coaching clinics ad nauseam and great blueprints alone aren't enough. I remember ages ago Joe Tokam, previously Highlands then later National Director of coaching tearing his hair out at the huge effort in systems being crushed at grassroots level. Anyway, as they say, hope springs eternal :)

True but in fairness PNG hasn't been very efficient. They have had a fully funded Coaching Director since the early 80's starting with Ivan Ravu then a long list of successors plus a fair amount of support from the ARL and going back even further to the Rothmans' days.

Q. What is the saturation point of the NRL competition?

If the answer is a finite figure like 20 let's say, then surely the debate is more about how to distribute the game rather than purely expansion with the ogre of relocation returning, just saying.

PNG needs to work on its infrastructure. More roads and improved public transport to make it easier for juveniles to play the game from an early age. Build more schools and rugby league fields.

The best thing the WA Gov can do is buy three games from the Wests Tigers to play at PRS. Games against Dolphins, Titans and Cowboys wouldn't draw too well at Campbelltown, but would pull a crowd in Perth.

A consortium from Perth should look at buying a small stake in the Wests Tigers and rebrand as the Western Tigers. Everyone wins. Tigers get more money through sponsorship, Perth-based companies get the opportunity to advertise their products into Brisbane and Sydney and WA Gov gets a few tourists.

Have any of the BS Perth articles named the businessmen who are allegedly on the bidding consortium?

Has the WA Gov publicly stated they will fund a high performance training centre, an upgrade of Perth Rectangular Stadium and junior pathways?

All I've heard from the WA Gov is an NRL team will help bring tourists to Perth. That's not a good reason for the NRL to put a team there.
Eh? The fact there hasn’t been made up numbers like the png stories would suggest they aren’t bs surely?

Perth is a new market that won't cannibalise existing clubs.
That's the only reason you can think of to expand into Perth?

If you're going to use that bullshit dots on a map logic then why not think bigger, like John Ribot, and invest in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore or Beijing?

They're bigger markets than Perth will ever be. An NRL team in these markets won't have to compete with the Eagles and Dockers for marketshare, either.

If you don't think RL can succeed in these markets then wouldn't that make you an "AFL troll" who has a low opinion of RL?

That's what I get called for not getting behind the ludicrous Perth bid that has nothing to its name. The same logic can be used for people who advocate for Perth but ignore every other market in southeast Asia.

South Africans and New Zealanders in Perth will choose RU over RL as their preferred game to play and watch, despite the struggles of Super Rugby. For every person playing RL in Perth there's three playing RU. Adding an NRL team won't change that.

Geez are wb1234, donkey and Iamback really going to continue quoting the 600m number despite the head of the bid saying it's bullshit?

This is complete bullshit.

Let's compare Brisbane Tigers with the West Coast Pirates.

Tigers have $135m in assets, a high performance training centre, the world's premier rugby league stadium, gaming machine revenue, Ch9's support and the world's most parochial rugby league market to tap into for juniors, sponsors and corporate backing.

Perth has a pawnbroker who sponsored the financially destitute Reds. That's it. No high performance training centre. An below average stadium with terrible corporate facilities. Just 4.1k players in WA. A local media that hates rugby league and won't give it the time of because RL is a minority sport in the market. A consortium bidding for an AwFuL licence with the backing of Joondalup's mayor. Just 8k FTA viewers from Perth tuned in to watch NRL last year. Only 5k PTV viewers from Perth watch NRL. The broadcasters aren't interested in a Perth team.

Broncos and Dolphins are the two largest and richest rugby league clubs in the world. Cowboys generated more revenue from football operations than every club bar the Broncos in 2022.

That's what Perth is up against.
Queensland firehawks aren’t a realistic option, not for over a decade at least.

The fact Perth is mentioned every time expansion has been discussed by the media over the last 20 years proves it's complete bullshit without any substance. Despite the press pushing Perth as a "potential" expansion option, it has missed out on the 16th and 17th licences. It looks set to miss out on the 18th licence, too.

V'landys and Abdo have never shown a preference for Perth. Neither has anyone from Ch9 and Foxtel since the Super League War.

The only option that gets mentioned by journalists more than Perth is the Bears.

That’s got little to do with Perths bid and a lot to do with nrl inaction on expansion. even now it’s foolish to think the nrl won’t just choose where it wants the next clubs and that somehow a glitzy bid interest in the media will somehow make nrl choose that city.
We learnt our lessons in 2013.

bears, perth, nz2 brisbane, png have all been talked about as potential locations for as long as I can remember, nothing new there.

You said a second Brisbane team wasn't a realistic option in 2020.

You said the broadcasters paid nothing for the Dolphins.

You said the Dolphins would have small crowds and few members.

You said Brisbane 2 would cannibalise the Broncos.

You said Ch9 don't want a third Brisbane team.

You're full of shit and don't get anything right.

No I never did, I said they should be next

no I never, I said fta never paid anything and the jury is still out on how much extra on the last deal fox actually paid when you look at the tv deal numbers

it has, or will. Reality is new fans who may have become broncos fans may now become dolphins fans, that’s just obvious,

No I never, I said they paid nothing for brisabne2 so why should we care what they want

haha, coming from you I’ll take that as a compliment
