Sammy has to go surely????

Bravo is one of their few quality players and he can't get a look in for a bloke who is just not up to it. And he's a crap captain to boot.

Narine is a pretty weak player at test level, Shillingford has been better with the red ball for a while now.

I actually think they should leave out Shillingford, pick Cotterell and use Deonarine and Samuels as spinners. They have been desperately short a 4th quick here.

But again, the bowlers in their squad:

Best
Gabriel
Sammy
Cotterell
Shillingford
Narine
Permaul

That is an utterly insane attack to take to New Zealand. Why are there three finger spinners in the squad? I am completely stumped. And the above point about Dwayne Bravo is bang on. How is he not even in the squad? You'd be better off playing him instead of Deonarine and having a 4th seamer.

1 thing I like about Mike Hesson is that he rewards players who perform at domestic level no matter how old they are.

No-one in their right mind would have ever considered Peter Fulton let alone given him a recall (including myself), but he's come back and has cemented his spot in a position where we have been extremely weak in.

Even if they made the argument that it's the same squad that toured India for logistics reasons, why not add one of the ODI bowlers to the squad like Jason Holder? He's got around 50 FC wickets at about 20 a piece.

New Zealand are belting the poor old West Indies

However, knowing New Zealand, it will probably rain for 4 days straight and it'll be a draw out of all this

The West Indies have become "the token cricket team" for anyone looking to belt someone right at this very moment

they'll win the t20s though, but thats almost as effective a comeback as that response to a sledge by an English batsman:->

Australian Bowler - Youre the worst batsman ever!

English Batsman - "I'm the best batsman in my family"

^ that's what a West Indian win in a t20 international means

That was actually a pretty decent sledge when you consider the circumstances.

It was Mark Waugh sledging James Ormond, and his response was 'at least I'm the best batsman in my family'.

Shut him up in a hurry!

The West Indies go the shaft in that makeshift tour of India, they pretty much literally just hopped off the plane for this match.

That doesn't excuse them from playing such disgraceful cricket though.

Yes, that was one of the best!

I am not getting to carried away either way yet, NZ had a fine day with the bat - that doesn't happen too often for us, and there are still 4 days left... Some useful bats in the Windies, and our batting remains fragile...

shillington is quite a handy bowler, but this is the worst Windies attack I can remember.

I know they have a few injuries but how Dwayne Bravo can't crack this side is beyond me, he's a better bowler than Sammy and Gabriel let alone his batting and fielding. As Timbo said how is a hacker like Deondorine keeping him out???

Tend to agree, but you Aussies do tend to have high regard for people that have done a few good things in/against Aust, and disregard the rest of their performances

NZ lost 2 already - what I said above, tests are the long haul, and consistency is rewarded...

I just can't fathom how you'd look at a green seamer in Dunedin, go 'yep, bowl first' and then pick this attack.

As an aside, watching this test really makes me want to go to a test match in Dunedin. Looks a perfect test ground!

Nice to see Taylor do well and bat for more than 6 hours which according to the commentators he has never done before.

Finally showing some patience and maturity to make a big ton, I like watching him bat, nice technique.

Whats the go with this Sodh character, never heard of him, can bat a bit.

Taylor's problem has always been the rash shot, across the line - when he focuses on playing straight he looks as good as anyone.

Sodhi's a young leggie... jury's out on him, but with Vetorri on and hurt, Bruce Martin the same age, and Patel not up to it, it's time to give him a regular gig...

Core of the team - Williamson, Rutherford, Boult, Southee, Anderson, Boult, Bracewell and perhaps Sodhi is young, and talented...

Only veterans are Fulton and Redmond (in this team), and they are temps... McCullum's body won't be likely to hold up much longer

Yes, really nice to see that...

Hopefully he can stick to this more understated style, as I said before when he plays like this he looks world class... no need for him to go aerial, or to try and force the pace

Seems to have gotten over his Michael Slater syndrome. I loved it how many times the commentators remarked with surprise that he hadn't tried to hit a 6 yet.
