I'm sure we're gonna hear every kind of excuse for this crowd, eg weather, interstate team playing so no travelling supporters, origin players out, an unusual amount of weddings/parties/anything in Sydney hence why people couldn't show up blah blah blah but no matter what spin you put on it, that crowd is nothing short of pathetic.

The Dragons team deserved better than that from their supporters and the game itself deserved better than that.

It's unseasonably cold tonight but that doesn't excuse 6,000 people. Pathetic.

Well, I guess if the Panthers get a crap crowd for tomorrows match, you'll be hearing more of the "Sydney teams crowds are crap" banter.

Normally im not one to bag our crowds because we have so many games but they are pretty piss weak this weekend.

Dragons at ANZ makes no sense. I don't blame St Geroge supporters for not going there.

If they wanted to move out of Kogarah they should have gone to SFS.

It just adds an extra 30 minutes int he train ride when there's a perfect stadium in the city.

Saints fans voting with their feet on their club taking home games out of their area?
Cant blame them personally

There can't be any excuses for crowds that bad. It is a combination of many things which are currently wrong in our game:

The lack of memberships or attendance culture (the fact that we've just started promoting it should hopefully help in a few years). Also, I thought the dragons had 8500 season ticket holders??
Joint venture clubs need to be smarter in the way they approach this and cater for their diverse fan base.

Teams playing in massive stadiums far away from their base. Think about how far it takes to get from Kogarah to ANZ, then add an hour trip from Wollongong-Shellharbour-South Coast. Do it for one or two marquee games a year but really - vs Melbourne in Origin week...idiots.

Rep football being played in the middle of the club season. I am obsessed with rugby league, but its hard to remember who's playing with State of Origin taking over everything. Why not leave it all till after the GF. It would flow perfectly. GF-WCC-City/Country-Origin-Internationals or something similar.

The complete lack of any knowledge or efforts in promoting games. Why don't the Sydney teams work together? With their money combined they could bombard the place with promos.

Until some of these problems are fixed we are always going to get sh*t crowds every now and then. They should not just be accepted, they should be an impetus for having a closer look at the way the game is run.

6,881! How good's the joint venture going.

Pretty bad, considering in 1994 (last year before SL war) the following teams were averaging:

St George: 12,225/home game
Illawarra: 11,911/home game

That's a combined total of 24,136/home game. After 5 home games this year, St George/Illawarra are averaging 13,191/home game (which they also had the luxury of the ANZAC game to inflate that figure. Without the ANZAC game, it'd be 11,090/home game).

The same can be said for Manly vs Norths/Manly in 1994

1994:

North Sydney: 15,116/home game
Manly: 14,860/home game

for a combined total of 29,976/home game. Now, as of 2008, Manly average 12,919/home game (after 5 home games).

What a pair of truly woeful crowds. I can vouch for it being f*cking cold in Gosford tonight but Dragons fans... what's doing?

Ha.. You think the same cold front that hit Gosford missed Homebush?!?

Why would most fans lug their ass out there last night, anyway? It's a mission to get out there, miles from home. Further for the Illawarra based fans. I went, and it just reminded me how much I hate Olympic Stadium.

Even if it wasn't freezing cold they wouldn't have got many more out there. In fact, I reckon the figure they posted was inflated.

The place is a dive. The sooner we get back to Kogarah the better. League is not ready for these big stadiums, unless it's a geniune blockbuster.

Can somebody tell me why all the dragons' games aren't just being moved to Woolongong while their Sydney ground is being renovated?

I know that ANZ offers money but come on...6000!!!!! You'd get more than that at most SP Cup matches...

Cronulla had a slight advantage with their figure, it was finer weather earlier in the afternoon and gates opened at about 1:25pm for a big day of footy.

Well done on them for such a great crowd though, good to see given the circumstances a positive result. The only way is up.

God no... but we have far less at this point than we did after 10 rounds last year if memory serves...

Sub 10k so far:
R10
STG v MEL @ ANZ - 6k
MAN v NQL @ Gosford - 9k

R8
SOU v NQL @ ANZ - 9.8k
NZW v CAN @ Mt Smart - 7.3k

R2
PEN v CAN @ CUA - 7.5k

5 so far.

By comparison I think we had close to ten matches in previous seasons already below the 10k mark.

Great to see that sub-10K crowds are becoming rarer.

Dragons fans are only hurting themselves by boycotting ANZ Stadium.
