It seems the Sydney folk are saying that there are too many games on tv,too many teams in Sydney and too many grounds getting expensive upgrades when times are hard.

ANZ isn't a dump, it's simply not in StG's area. The game would definitely have got 13-14k had it been Kogarah, WIN or SFS... JMO.

Fans continue to vote with their feet - and continue to be ignored.

In fact, they are not only ignored, they are seen as the cause of the perceived problems.

Why should clubs care about crowd numbers at ANZ stadium - they get a guaranteed income anyway. No incentive to waste money boosting crowd numbers - because that is what any efforts in this regard would be - a waste. The income is guaranteed regardless.

Sydney fans do not want to go to night matches. Moreso when they are live on tele anyway.

If crowd numbers are really important, and I am not convinced that they are, then all Sydney teams have to do is schedule Sunday afternoon matches at their home grounds and do a bit of local promotion - not national campaigns appealing to women or sit around on think-tanks. Take out ads in local papers, visit local schools and hand out tickets to local junior teams - plenty of effective, cheap stuff can be done at a local level. None of this is interesting or 'sexy' to the staff in clubs or the NRL.

More important than boosting current crowd numbers is the support that this will shore up for the future. People have to enjoy going to the footy. It has to be exciting, good value and easy. Local grounds offer all of this. Sunday afternoon is perfect for this. Unfortunately, this is only good from a Sport perspective. From a TV perspective it will never fly - so it will not happen.

It is a dump. It is avoided by everyone except for the die-hards and rent-a-crowd types who will turn up to whatever they are told to. These are not sports fans - they are of short-term value only.

Fans have voted with their feet - and been ignored. The place is no good.

Load of hogwash. The stadium continues to draw big crowds for bigger events - the problem is hosting smaller events there. Until week-in week-out NRL matches all become marquee events, ANZ won't be the right venue for any club games bar major ones like Dogs v Roosters, Tigers v Eels, Dogs v Tigers etc. It's a great stadium, with great facilities and easy access - it's just not being used correctly is all.

The only reason I did not go to Tigers v Parra was beacuse it was at ANZ. I am not the only one.

22,000 other people did, which is a sensational crowd during the Origin period. Very few Sydney matches in the last 5 years have managed to crack 20k during Origin.

Cant' argue there.

Try fitting 22,000 people into Parra Stadium.

Had the weather been good, the game could have attracted 30k.

Too big for any of the suburban grounds.

A minimum is guaranteed yes, of around $100,000, which is the revenue of around 6,000 paying spectators, but what is being overlooked here, is there is the potential for clubs to make a lot of money out of ANZ Stadium if they draw large crowds there.

Bulldogs made a large amount extra on their clash against the Roosters earlier in the year, and they are not the only one taking advantage of the quota's of extra payments if you get bums on seats at the venue. Wests Tigers purposely got the Police and Premiers Sporting Challenge schools in their region involved in their clash last week, because once they get past the 16K mark, they get a share of gate and catering revenues.

Its just typical of the short-sightedness of so many Sydney clubs, instead of chasing extra fans, extra revenue, and extra newspaper space by being able to boast about huge crowds, they are happy to sit with what is given to them because they don't have to work for it.

I hope plenty of people read that post from yakstorm above, explains something that all people concerned about ANZ need to read.
