I'm not moving an event, I am creating one. The Storm ANZAC fixture stays as is. But when there is a Kings Birthday long weekend in NZ, build a new event involving the Warriors.

Maybe on public holiday eve, schedule a game Sunday night 8pm in NZ, 6pm back here in Australia eastern time.
The obvious day to do this is Matariki (Maori New Year) or Matariki eve. It’s a public holiday in NZ and is always observed on a Friday, in late June to mid July so would be so would be ideal for either the Thursday or early Friday timeslots. Plus it has actual cultural significance unlike Kings Birthday which nobody gives a shit about besides being a day off (the original proposal was for it to actually replace KB, but ended up with both being retained).

Cowboys prefer Sat night home games, Yet rarely get them. Also clubs have no say over who they play. So it needs to come from above
It certainly does not need to come from above.

Cowboys are in a long line of clubs that prefer Saturday nights, so just saying you prefer Saturday night, doesn’t mean you’re gonna get it.

If two clubs can suitably come to the NRL with a suggestion for an annual day or date that has a suitable theme for the fixture to be come an annual event, of course the NRL will listen. Then the NRL will make a decision on that.

It’s not the NRL’s job to say “Hey Warriors, as June 5th is National Sheep Appreciation Day in NZ, we are going to fixture you guys at home on June 5th every year against Newcastle”.

More like the Warriors job to say “Chur NRL bro, we think it’s a good idea to play Newcastle every June the 5th aye. It’s National Sheep Appreciation Day in NZ and our most valued public holiday and we can get 25,000 every year by having a bring your favourite sheep and we’ll charge them for every leg that comes through the turnstiles aye. What do you reckon aye?”

Well that's great! The Warriors could have their own marquee club game on Maori New Year. And the NRL fraternity should treat it with the utmost respect, just like ANZAC Day. Just need to find the right opposition for the Warriors. Maybe Storm.

In some cases the opponent can even change. Just need x date will have a event. Magic Round for example not sure anyone cares the actual match ups across the weekend

Only issue with Storm is they already have one event game against the Warriors already on Anzac Day - might be good to give it to a team that doesn’t currently have a regular yearly event match.
Or as the above post suggested the opponent could change- the even is that the Warriors always play a match on that holiday, but not necessarily against a specific opponent.

Actually, if Aussie clubs gave good thought to it, they would do their best to lock in themselves as the annual opponent.

To be the Aussie based club that annually plays in the biggest club game in NZ would certainly be a selling point to any potential Kiwi signings.

The three middle bays on the upper level (hard camera side) are blocked off and some of the GA areas in the corners are being used for temporary screens while the new screens are being installed. Some seats have been lost to accomodate the new larger screen installed in the south western corner. One of the corners is also being used for a temporary bar and hospitality area so those seats have been covered with platforms. I would say capacity is approximately 26-27k at the moment - but that would just be a guess.

I don't want to piss on the parade like a neurotic flog, but because it's Melbourne, I'm going to go there - there a few single seats left, which won't really affect the crowd figure. The Storm social media team are gronks though, and often call premature sellouts. At least this one is close enough.

This was my favourite. They called this game a sellout and there were about 5k tickets left ha. Maybe the guy in charge of payroll is in charge of declaring the sellouts.
