The Cowboys just sent members and email with an update on their total member tally (17,576).

But I note for they have mentioned that we have 9,600 "Full Season" Members, which is a new record.

I wonder if this is going to be the new way they count memberships?

What do you think is the average price of a full season member ? $300?

It really should be. Full season members is the true number.

Melbourne folk buy sticker memberships for their soy candles - that's how they got to 40k.

Broncos vs Dragons is still on track for 29-31k. I expected more. Maybe heaps of our fans decided to have the weekend off and buy tickets to the Dolphins home game next week.

The way it is tracking it could be sold out by Monday. Red line pretty much sold, green line is on sale.

The Wookie has noted that membership numbers are pretty meaningless these days due to what clubs choose to count as a member. That’s very noticeable with afl membership numbers for some clubs. It’s a clever marketing strategy but that’s about all. I’m an interstate member of the sharks and would be lucky to get to three games a year. I’m hardly going to pay for a full season.

Newcastle appears to be tracking for a good crowd tonight (unless they're holding seats off sale). Both North and South GA look sold out. Not a whole lot of seats left on either east or west grandstand.

And the afl can get 88k people on a Thursday night. Keep enjoying you 3rd tier sport
Yeah good crowds, how where the viewers?

Yep less than the NRL opener.

Terrible footy for the opener, low scoring.

And the tv ratings proved what a shit game it was.

The AFL has a lot of problems when footy fans are cursing the low quality of footy in the opener.

How many???

Those poor people. I flicked past while I was waiting for the real footy to start last night and it's the most god awful, horrendous aberration I've ever seen. The howling commentators make ray Hadley and matt Thompson sound like ASMR in comparison
I flicked past it myself and they were so desperate for goals I heard one commentator roar "goal " before sheepishly saying " oh, he missed". It sounded so funny. Like the whole spectacle I suppose.

You spent all that time creating an account and this is the unoriginal and humourless post we get. 0/10.

You can have your shitty sport. Head back down into your parents basement and finger yourself over Gary Abblett's bald head, you gronk
The first paragraph was funny, the second sentence of the second paragraph unnecessary and disappointing.

That's like the Swans saying they are bigger than RL in Sydney because their single club (Giants are irrelevant and half Canberra) has a higher average than all NRL teams.

Why? Every AFL fan in Sydney goes for the Swans, and 99% of Sydney primary NRL fans who have a vague interest in Victorian Rules would be bandwagoners for the Swans.

So yes, Sydney FC should theoretically have high crowds because they were the original A league team for a city of 5 million

AFL and A League: 5 million ÷ 2 teams = 2.5 million per team

NRL: 5 million ÷ 9 teams = 555,555 per team.

Yet each League averages around 14k in Sydney. Theoretically with less games and teams they should be higher if they claim to be "more popular". But our aggregate destroys them

In conclusion the fact that nearly all RL teams outdraw the soccer and are getting closer each year to the Swans shows just how big our game is in Sydney. It's just maths

RUGBY LEAGUE RULES IN SYDNEY, AND ANYONE WHO SAYS ANYTHING ELSE IS A LIAR OR SEVERELY DELUDED
Theyre not the bigger than a whole sport, but they are the club with biggest active fanbase of any Sydney club, by a long long way. Bit embarrassing really.

Good to see some big crowds in Brisbane and Sydney, still too sporadic but shows how can start to tier games as events in right stadiums with optimal game times.
