It's a bit of a shame for the way the game (and therefore the series) unfolded early with those two pretty obvious non-tries to Qld getting awarded. We really didn't need the help and it took the energy out of the Blues.

Luke Lewis had some pretty passionate words after the match on Grandstand; you could tell he was pretty close to tears. Claims before the match he was watching the two teams at the end of their warmups. He saw the Qlders all get together for a group hug/fire-up sesh. The blues wandered off hardly speaking to one another. Told Matt Elliott off-air 'the blues are getting flogged tonight'.

His point is that despite the talent between the two sides being close enough, Qld has a team and a culture that's passed on and built upon. The blues need to find the support staff to instill this. I think blokes like himself, Gallen, Gould, A. Johns, Roach and even Ricky Stuart should be in this culture-forming, guru type role, supporting a hard-nosed coach like Hasler, Bellamy or Toovey.

Anyway Freddy's selections and bench use baffles. As does the constant stories that leak out that he doesn't 'get along' with certain players like RCG and seemingly others like Klemmer, Hynes, Walker? If your dressing room has this sort of highschool drama atmosphere is it any wonder Lewis saw what he saw and drew his conclusions?

tldr: NSW don't get Origin.

People say the team needs to be picked on form not combinations but what form players really missed out? Edwards / Gutherson over Teddy? Klemmer? You could argue Walker over Luai but he's been injured and Luai's games running into Origin had been good. There really aren't that many better options. Hynes form had fallen off a cliff the two weeks prior to selection and he's been a little exposed by his stats against the top teams.

Off the top of my head: Dylan Edwards, Campbell Graham, Cody Walker, Keaon Koloamatangi, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, David Klemmer, Saifiti brothers, Murray should have been at lock, Martin starting backrower, etc etc.

Origin literally exists for the benefit of Queenslanders. NSW will never, ever have the same attitude towards it. We don't care. Get a bit annoyed, yeah, but everyone has moved on already.

If shoes were on the other foot, QLD would be in mourning right now.

It's also ironic, because Sydney is the most soulless, heartless, and spiritless shithole of the Australian capitals.
I gather you've never been to Malbun.

Voted the world's third most liveable city by latte slurping Toorakians who haven't stepped past their front doors since Gough Whitlam got the arse.

The city that expands its boundaries to include the ghetto known as Melton to increase its population past Sydney.

How petty.

This is what baffles- in the earlier days of Freddy’s reign there was that strong togetherness and accountability. Freddy highlighted that pic of Hayne standing before the crowd after Game 2 2014 and said he didn’t want that kind of individualism to sum up the team.

He dropped Cody Walker after an off game in the 2019 opener, but Cosy messaged Freddy before the decider to say good luck to the boys and he was following them all along. Cleary was dropped for Pearce, but at the end they were up there together on the podium celebrating with the shield and having a great old time.

Somewhere along the way Freddy has lost this, Luke Lewis’s story doesn’t surprise me at all based on what we saw last night. Sad thing thing is, Slater has more or less taken those same qualities Freddy instilled and applied them to Qld, and I can’t imagine why Freddy went away from what worked so well?

Damn. This reply will be purely subjective, just like your initial statements, but I'll bite anyway. I couldn't disagree with this point more.

For the most part, my experience with New South Welshmen is that they believe NSW and Sydney are the heart, soul, and spirit of Australia but they don't back it up with their attitudes, and actually couldn't give a f**k. It's also ironic, because Sydney is the most soulless, heartless, and spiritless shithole of the Australian capitals. All of our cities are pretty shyte, but Sydney takes the shitcake.

The majority of Sydneysiders that I've met seem to be self serving individuals first and foremost, and f**k the rest second.

Don't forget expensive

On a side note, earlier someone said that Luke Keary had been tried and failed at Origin level. Keary played game 1 in 2020. Otherwise when he could have been selected, or his form was screaming "pick me" he was unavailable at the start of those series due to injury.

Not saying necessarily he should be now called up for Origin 3 this sseason (nor in 2024 either), but 1 game is hardly a great body of evidence to judge. Unlike Mitchell Moses, he has won 3 premierships and a CC Medal too.
Like Nicho Hynes, Keary was the scapegoat after his one and only chance at origin when the team lost and Freddy panicked. Just like this year, the blues went on to lose the series.

Keary was never given a fair go at origin but agree his time is now past and shouldn't be considered in 2023.

It exists for the benefit of Qlders (Qld have literally had 10 more games than NSW since the concept began, a stat I never see brought up in the media) BUT- it is based on a version of the game that no longer exists, and hasn’t since national expansion. The QRL and NSWRL are both feeder comps now. The richest club in the NRL comes from Brisbane and plays out of Suncorp. The most successful club of the past 20 years comes from Melbourne.

This hurrr durrr them evil cockroaches are stealing our players and conspiring against us!1!1 attitude should die out with the boomers. Qlders no longer need to rely on The Courier Mail and 9 Qld to get their info about the world- and Origin should expand. Commercially and historically, it has gone as far as a two team, best of 3 concept can go.

I lived in Melbourne from Jan 2019 - December 2019 and didn't enjoy it much but I have to admit that the buzz of Melbourne city and inner suburbs (inclusive of the crackheads) is far better than Sydney. They are very proud of their city and their hate for Sydney is cringe though. I found that Sydneysiders do not care about Melbourne until prompted, and then they erupt with "BuT oUr BeAcHes!" and "wE ArE thE CApiTaL". In any case, the Melbourne v Sydney rivalry is 90% from Melbourne's side.

Brisbane and Perth people just live their relatively happy unbothered lives.

You are correct though, Melbourne claiming to be liveable is a complete joke. I routinely had to step over syringes, and I worked in the 'Paris end' of Collins Street.

BUT! With all this being said, if I had to pick between a Woollahra or Toorak home, I would pick Woollahra, because Rugba Leeg.

NSW fans care more about their clubs IMO. It's a different support dynamic

If some random all powerful being offered me one single Parra premiership in my lifetime at the expense of NSW never winning another series as long as Origin survives, you'd better believe I'm taking that deal

No fullback is getting ahead of Tedesco even though Edwards, Gutherson and Drinkwater are probably in better form
Campbell Graham can't train
Walker has been injured
RCG has been injured

Seems NSW need some depth in positions outside of fullback

That attitude and culture has been built though, it exists, all around that victim mentality - it's never going away.

Souths supporters we still have a "working man's club" culture even though we're owned by a bloke worth 10x what Politis is, a Packer, and a Hollywood star - and we always will.

The Roosters could get 5 consecutive wooden spoons but will always be the Eastern Suburbs rich yuppy transit lounge.

You need a point of difference or all clubs will become bland, soulless seppo-style franchises.

Cleary wasn't dropped for Game 3 in 2019. He was unavailable due to an ankle injury he suffered in Game 2 of that series.

It wasn't me but if that was your takeaway from the team they named I'd suggest you should perhaps go back to bed.

Unless you agree with the poster that Freddy is the man to lead us out at five eighth
would have Craig Fitzgibbon in the back row just for the goal kicking
