JD did it a few times last year. Nothing said about it. It’s just south’s week to have normal football things be blown up into articles to make the club look bad. Hopefully it protects cookie from having to defend against the big boys up front. Havili was our best last week. So we don’t lose anything.
Yeah, I'm thinking Havili is in there to counter Brandon Smith. Havili can match Smith's strength and off the mark speed. Cook v Smith has always been a bad matchup for us.
They are gonna need tight marker defense and not allow Smith to give them any kind of a roll on.

An extremely frosty presser from JD. Very defensive and tense. He certainly looks like a man under pressure, and I don't know whether that's a good sign or not to be honest.

Hey guys, sorry, I've been out all day enjoying the sites of Sydney so don't really have time to post a full reprt from the captains run today.

However, I will say that today has been one of the best days of my life. So surreal to actually be there. To be at Heffron, taking in the facility and watching training was simply unbelievable. It really was a dream come true and a pinch yourself moment.

I met Trell, Ty Ty, Bobby McCarthy, Sutto and Ello in the cafe in the morning, then saw Cody, Hosty, Tallis, and Tom as they were leaving. It was pretty cool.

In terms of the actual training, it was very light. They basically did warm up, then did about 10-15 different types of sets in different areas of the field. It all looked pretty sharp, no dropped balls at all so I home that's an omen.

The big news coming out of today was Havili starting for Cooky. To be honest, I can't really tell whether that's actually happening or not. Liva started the session and did the first few sets, but Cooky certainly did the majority. I'd say that still means Liva is starting. If so, I like the change a lot. It worked for us last year. Takes Cooky out of the heated opening exchanges when everyone is fresh, then we can unleash him later. It worked really well last year and hopefully that's the case again tomorrow night.

Everyone seemed very happy and chirpy, the moral was up. You certainly wouldn't know we were in the midst of a dreadful run.

Everyone I spoke to thought it was pretty cool I was a Kiwi, and this was my first time being there!! Ello in particular was awesome! He remembered me from the captains run in NZ last year and said when I'm in next week, we'll have coffee together, so I'm pretty damn excited about that.

Oh, and a weird thing from the day, we had a coffee this morning and they gave us vintage teaspoons, my girlfriend's spoon had 'New Plymouth' on it as well as a picture of Mt Taranaki which is where I'm from!!! How crazy is that??

It was the coolest day!! As I said, one of the best of my life. So surreal.

The boys look primed for tomorrow to me. I'm pumped to get out there and cheer them all the way home.

Well here we are Game Day is just about upon us and what an enormous one it is as we come into round 3 we are winless. And we come up against our bitter hated arch rivals the Roosters. I’m sure I speak for all us Souths faithful when I say we hate that club with a passion we hate everything they are about and everything they stand for. We absolutely despise everything about them. One things for sure is there will be another chapter written in the book of feuds tomorrow night. Let’s hope it’s another chapter in a positive way to us the good guys. If our boys don’t get up for this game I am not sure what they will be up for. We haven’t been getting the results back end of last season and we look a football team low on confidence and self esteem the first 2 rounds. We look a shadow of ourselves. And you know what it’s up to the boys to fix it and it starts tomorrow. We have been heavily scrutinised by the media and for the most part you’d say a lot of it is deserved. We need to not have these horrible 20-30mins period in games which we have we need to be more consistent. Our defence and defence on kick defusals has to be much better. We need to cut out the stupid errors and penalties and get back to our game. I want to see us show some good line speed in defence and get our kick chase on and take better last tackle options. We know we have the attack there it’s just all about our defence as the biggest work on. What we need to show is some real grit and will to defend our line. It’s Cam Murray 150th game and Taane 50th game as well so let’s do it for them.

Looking at the Roosters we know they will come at us hard they have plenty of strike over the park. Teddy and Manu are in fine form they have a lot out wide and such a strong forward pack as well. It’s also their first home game at Allianz this season so they will be pumped especially with it being JWH 300th as well. They will try put us off our game and distract our boys but we can’t fall for that. Looking at us Hawko will get his opportunity and I’m excited. But what we need is our pack to aim up so our spine can play off the back of it. We need to at least match them in that battle in the middle of the field. Cook will likely come off the bench too so I hope he goes well. Really though we need everyone to step their game up 1-17. We get Wighton back for his first game with us which will be great bit we can’t just expect things to happen as he’s back. We need to have the right attitude to every aspect of our game. We are in a hole but we can dig ourselves out of it.

I know for sure the Roosters faithful will be loud tomrrow night but it’s up to the Souths faithful to match that and get behind our boys. If you’re going to the game a job well done is coming home with no voice we want this more than they do! Our backs are against the wall that’s for sure but that is when that never say die attitude kicks in!

OK COME JUST BEFORE 8PM TOMORROW NIGHT EVERY RABBITOHS MEMBER AND SUPPORTER ON YA FEET WHERE THE COLOURS PROUDLY CLAP YA HANDS AND SCREAM YOUR LUNGS OUT LETS MAKE SURE ASHLEY KNOWS THERE ARE TWO TEAMS OUT THERE TO BE REFFED ON NOT JUST ONE!!! Happy game day everyone!! Here we f**king gooo! Well, game day is here and I have to say, I'm an absolute wreck! A ball of nerves, intensity and excitement. I don't really know what to do with myself to be honest. This is not only an extremely important game for the club as it could either completely destroy us, or light the flame and set set us on our way; But it's also the biggest game of my life so far personally. This is my first game in Australia and the first ever game I've watched with my girlfriend (we got together just after the end of the 2023 Season) so tonight is extremely special and it's a massive occasion for me personally.

When you add what an occasion this is to that, my god, it's a big night. it's the derby, the biggest rivalry in the game as we take on our arch-rivals, the scum, the Roosters. 116 years of bitter spite in this one and as a fan, I really feel it. Hate these pricks with a passion and hate is simply not a good enough way to describe it. Tonight, another chapter gets written into the Book of Feuds as the rivalry resumes and all that hate comes to the surface.

As we get closer to the game, the more I sense an ambush from us. It's going to be a ridiculously big challenge, but I really feel like we can do it after all the turmoil and the week we've just had with all the changes too. The boys will be pumped I hope, they should be well and truly up for this. There will be fireworks. Hold the ball and we can do it honestly because everything else will flow off the back of that.

The stage has been set. I was at the stadium this morning, drove past Boyd Cordner, gave him a big "Up the Bunnies!" and he flipped me the bird! Ahahaha. It was gold. has really lit a fire in me though.

I've never wanted to win a game so bad. Roosters vs Rabbitohs, it doesn't get much better than this. Let's f**king goooooooooo!!!!!

Get behind our boys if you're there, I certainly will be. They need it. We can f**king do this!!

F**k the Roosters!!!

Glory, Glory.

Well spotted.
The squad has been playing well for 35 mins then collapsing amidst errors and no defense.
What concerns me is the overall apathy of the players. They do not seem to care and somply go through the machinations of struggling.
It is indeed a massive contest for Demetriou's career. If the squad lay down and get run over its all over for him here and the search for someone with strong leadership and a presence will start.
For the short term I would give Hornby a shot and if possible appoint Ryan Carr, whom I believe Hornby knows, as his adjoint. Carr for mine did very well at St George when put in an extremely difficult spot with a poor roster. He seems to have aggression and spirit, two things badly lacking here.

One thing we all need to acknowledge.
If Demetriou lays another egg in this one we need to focus on who should be the next HC longer term.
Demetriou either shows something that Bennett raved about him or he drains down the sewer.
Should that happen the club should at least find out if Slater would be interested. Both he and Sam B have the charisma and front to lead a resurgence and to demand an end to the under performances and on going petit distractions.

Great read you hit the nail right on the head.

I would have thought Souths are in need of more speed all over the park.
Both Manly and the Broncos ran Souths ragged.

I guess the idea would be that bringing Cook from the bench against tiring forwards will bring speed to the middle
The year cowboys won the grand final they did the same all year with their dummy halves. Granville was the strike player but was getting worked over in defence missing heaps of tackles and then not using his running game.
So they started Rory Kostjaysn who was just used to pass out of dummy half and tackle his heart out for 20-25min then Granville would come on and be able to attack a tiring and fatigued defence.

Cook and Havili could easily be used the same way. If it works and opens up cooks attack I’m all for it

I can believe that this is 100% the plan, because the rest of our forward pack also plays like it's 2015!

Looking at the reserve grade team that’s playing right now I don’t think there will be any last minute changes at this stage.

shaq, Kenner, Chee Kam are all playing in that game
