Ive got big question marks over Marcus North.
After that initial 100 in the first innings of the SAF series he didnt get any runs, and now 3 failures here.

I was about to pose the question - was there even a point of bringing McDonald on this tour?

He won't get a spot as a bowler ahead of Hilfenhaus or as a batsman ahead of Watson or North.

Why is he here? Surely Rogers or Voges would have been a better use of a plane ticket?

Honestly anyone would of been, whether its a backup batsman or a second spinner option. There was no point taking McDonald.

Yo can see what th cheat sheet was for Hughes.

Bowl straight at his stumps, and short of a length, with the occasional short ball. Give him nothing outside off stump, thats his strength.

Most guys are strong off middle and leg but not so with Hughes, especially the short one. But at 20 he's got plenty of time to work it out.

8/337 stumps

Katich 95
everyone else under 10

Johnson (47) saves Australia ass with the bat once again after coming in at 6/197

Hussey 143no
Hauritz 7no

We will probably declare overnight, no point batting on, get the bowlers bowling, and hopefully our top order has another innings batting to find some form (drop hussey to bat at 11 in the 2nd dig, he is ready for the 1st test)

At least all top 7 batsmen have made at least a 50 in the first 3 innings in tour matches... except Marcus North who will be under the pump in the 2nd innings and first test.

well that is very true, but if north doesn't play Hauri will... and tbh i would prefer North over Hauri as an offspinner irrespective of batting

This lions attack is more experienced and considerably better than the sussex one, plus rain is forecast

Id rest katich and hussey if we bat again, give others more time in the middle. It can only benefit the side come the first test. Promote North to 1st or 2nd drop.

We need our batting to fire in this series.

If you are going on bowling alone I would go Hauri cause he is use to bowling long spells where as North is only use to around 20 overs a match.

This isn't too bad when you think about it...

In any match, if you have two of your top 6 get tons (Katich was close enough) then you're doing alright.

The other blokes will fire, I have no doubts.

It was funny seeing Bumble crapping on about how Australia will be struggling going into the test because of the result at tea and how England were only 4 down....then, at the end of the day, we've managed to pull ourselves up to 8/337 and they dropped to 8/290 odd

Clark HAS to play in the test. Johnson and Siddle will probably go for runs as they're attackig and the poms will probably target any spin as their oppurtunity to dominate so we need Clark to come in and bowl his line and length at 1.5 an over.

If Hilfy is not being considered i hope and pray that Clark gets the spot ahead of Lee. That means we could have 3 bowlers going for runs plus if Hauri is bowling his Pies it could get ugly......

If Marcus North is not picked the selectors have lost it. He is our ONLY first slipper in the damn squad

Johnson should fing himself batting at 7 soon. Watson will be injured and North doesn't have much batting skills by the looks of it... Very loose technique on the West Australian.

The side's fielding set-up has also been altered on this trip, with Michael Clarke due to replace the retired Matthew Hayden at first slip. Marcus North has spent time there during his limited appearances, but Nielsen has decided Clarke is the long-term option in the crucial position.
"Michael has caught a lot at third slip in the past, he's a natural catcher at slip and we think he's the best man for the job there," Nielsen told Cricket Australia TV. Ponting is unmoved in the reshuffle while Phillip Hughes will stand at third and Michael Hussey remains in the gully.
The move means Clarke's strong left arm throwing and outstanding ground fielding will be missing from the offside. "We certainly feel as though we're losing some of our speed, agility and throwing power in the ring at cover," Nielsen said. "But looking at how most dismissals take place, especially early on in the innings with the new ball, there were so many catches behind the wicket that the decision was made that we need our best catchers there."
