Who else would you have named captain?

Also this chat about Carey is pretty misplaced. The bloke averages 29 in Shield cricket. He wasn't going to be looked at just yet, and he's nearly 28 so he's definitely not much more of a long term option than Paine anyway.

Paine wasn't even in contention for the 1st Ashes test and was an out of the blue call. It was Wade or Nevill.

Nek minnit...Australian captain.

I'll admit there isn't really another option as they'll never pick a bowler.

Because Nevill was unfairly dropped?
And the poor bloke's confidence has been shot ever since... Has barely made a run in Shield competition since he was dropped for Scissorhands and overlooked for Paine thereafter....

Warne and his white floppy

Wasn't that in a newspaper sting once?

Can someone be both extremely self referential and so lacking in self awareness?

They were raised in the Australian cricket community. They should be putting back in Shield; grade, coaching. Most of them retired straight in to tge media.

Warne is an f**kstickle though.

If they can earn a better living somewhere else why shouldn't they?

There was certainly an opportunity to get younger blokes in the side, but Carey wouldn't be at the top of the list. Probably not even top ten
Paine is Mike Brearley with the gloves except Brearley could captain and bat better.

Paine might be good for the odd 20 here or there. But that's about it. He needs to drop below Cummins as he's part of the tail.

There were plenty of other more experienced test players than Paine.

Carey offers far more to the team than Paine does and that's why the plan for succession was there.

I just find it unethical.

Why?

They don't owe CA anything. If anything, CA owes them. They may well contribute to their local clubs, or their childrens clubs, or whatever. The issue is that CA won't loosen the purse strings to get these guys working in a proper capacity.

And beyond that, which of Warne's mates would genuinely be worth a go anyway? Just because they were good cricketers doesn't mean they'll do any better than the coaches we have. The one from that era is Gillespie, and he's been blacklisted and treated like shit.

Averages 29. If Paine should bat below Cummins, Carey would be below Starc as well...

Carey can score centuries, Paine can't get to 50a nd Paine's first class average is bolstered by his early years. When did he last score a century?

We can't be carrying blokes who's only job is to catch a ball.

Not too bright, mate.
