The big story coming out of this series is, once again, the importance of quality pitches to the future of Test cricket.

The first two Tests were awesome. They offered plenty for the bowlers but also allowed quality batsman to score a ton if they were good enough.

Contrast that to the dour bitumen dished up in the next two Tests. Starc looked like Chris Harris from ball one in Melbourne. And the SCG has not been much better tbh.

The defining moment of a Test match should NOT be the toss. And in the last two Tests as soon as India won the toss the game was over.

We should have offered more pitches like Perth instead of the India friendly roads. It at least gave our bowlers a chance and our batsmen won't make 350 anyway.

And Perth was the only test where India was under any pressure hence why Pujara failed - twice.

You can bet India won't give us any bouncey decks.

Carey is not, in any universe, objectively better. His FC average is identical to Paine's, and considerably less than Paine's test average.
