KohlI isn’t even going to get suspended. The bending over for the Indians is seriously pathetic. CA are to scared to challenge it as we know what the Indians would do if one of their players got suspended

To be honest, its a massive win for us that he is playing

I know he got that ton in Perth, but we were woefull

He has been badly out of form last few years and a walking wicket, along with Sharma

Last series here, when Kholi missed 3 tests (Rahane took over as captain) India were so much better ,we dont want that again

Shaun Marsh was a better bat than Phil Hughes. Come at me!
1st session tomorrow is huge. If we can get 450 plus we’ll win.
Hard to know what to make of Hughes…. Some high points, but at other times he looked woeful… sadly it’s all guesswork now

Lot of terrible batting form, guess the question is can the Indians manage to cobble together score ls like Khawaja, Labuschange and Smith have

He had some pretty big technical flaws. He could’ve eventually overcame it and carved out a decent International career but I reckon he’d of been in and out the side for the most part. As you said though, sadly we’ll never know.
Marsh looked a more competent bat to me though

Sadly at the time of his passing, he pretty much had knocked a lot of those flaws, and was in line to be back in the test arena. He most likely would have finally cemented that spot, he had finally figured out his game and was on top of it. Mind you Smith’s Technique is pretty bad, and he absolutely killed it.

^^^

Kohli was sanctioned for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct that relates to "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match". No formal hearing was required as Kohli accepted the sanctions.

What a f**king joke, I wonder what any other player would have got,

That will be no deterrent at all for a multi millionaire

Great way to start your test career! a 60 against India, at the MCG in 40 degree heat, against Bumrah.

Also good to see Uzzie, Marnus and Smith all getting runs. I've been quite critical of Marnus especially recently.

Marsh going the right way to get dropped.... if it wasn't for the boys club...

Australia probably with the noses ahead, but this now makes Smiths wicket quite vital in this first session with Starc, Lyon and Boland left to come in.

Perfectly even day 1.

India ahead if they knock us off for below 340. 340-375 is par. We are ahead at 375+.

This is good test cricket.

Konstas is the real deal. He has the talent and the swagger to belong at this level. I haven't been this excited about a young player since Phil Hughes. What he was doing to Bumrah and co reminded me a lot of what a young Hughes did to Steyn and co in 2009.

Now we just need the selectors to not stuff him around like they did to Hughes. His peak is 5-10 years away and he is capable of anything. I want him in the team for the long term and I do not them dropping him if he has 2 consecutive bad games. As young as he is his form might ebb and flow in the months and years to come. I don't want them picking some mediocre 30 year old the first moment his form dips the way the selectors were picking nuffies like Quiney and Shaun Marsh ahead of Hughes.
I agree with most of this but if Konstas gets out to some french cricket shot any time soon I want him dropped mid test.
I put more value in my wicket when I played bush 5th grade than this kid did yesterday.

I think both were more mental issues than technical.

Marsh was quite soft upstairs and had some horrid lapses of concentration for an opener.

Hughes had an often unattractive technique but it was more after people starting saying he had technical issues and all that started to struggle. I always felt he stopped leaving because he started to feel like he needed to get bat on ball, and became a huge knicker.

I think Hughes was the better player, but I don't think either ever reached their ceiling

And no doubt you averaged 10-odd (7.12)

I still can't believe Konstas goes for the Sharks, but nobody is perfect.
He's a breath of fresh air in the Aussie test team and something we've desperately needed.
Also I feel for McSweeney who IMO would have cashed in on this pitch. When you pick someone new you pick that person for the series unless you see some glaring deficiences.

No interest in scoring is a glaring deficiency
