Average scores with that team would be like 60-54.

The amount of stupid in this thread makes my head hurt. Where do all the intelligent RL fans hang out?
Between my ears mostly. It's a very peaceful place too.

Edit: Forget to add, part of the pain your feeling from the stupidity is not this thread. But your state. You know it's been proven with every NSW person that moves to QLD the average IQ of both states increases.

Played Am football for 8 years, you have no idea!
As I said get the top 50 high school Am football backs, put them in an SG ball set up and a large % of them would go on to be top class prof players. But you could probably say the same for RU players, 1-400metre runners, soccer defenders, boxers and a whole host of sportsmen. Mental attitude is often what differentiates those that make it in the pros and those who don't and the best in any sport come with that mental attitude. get them early enough to adapt their physiques and skills and they would make it in most sports. One of the reasons English RL struggles, all the best kids want to play soccer.

Bring on some NFL post touchdown celebrations I say. Best thing about the sport...

Some people are acting like because their sport doesn't require the players to pass the ball or run it, they'd somehow never be able to figure out how it's done. A lot of NFL players would've grown up playing basketball/baseball, both sports that require a lot of hand/eye coordination. Pretty sure if you can dribble/shoot a basketball properly you can learn to catch/pass a rugby league ball considering the first two are significantly more difficult to learn.

The issues would be defensively mostly. I think most of them (the WR's/TE's/RB's etc) are fit enough to be able to adapt to the constant running and stuff but being able to tackle/position yourself properly is a whole different issue altogether. I could imagine them doing a lot of arm grabbing and trying to launch themselves at people with no real technique or anything.

This again?

Yeah, the USA would dominate the sh*t out of us in Rugby if they could be bothered. Open your mind a bit...the NFL is awesome to watch and players often run head first into one another.

They would dominate only because they are a huge country.

Yeah Sirro was in Hawaii, but he came home because they actually expected him to attend college classes.
So he came home, joined the police force and then got graded by Balmain.

And yes, Greg Smith only claimed to have played for the Philladelphia Eagles, he was full of sh*t.

Manfred Moore was discussed earlier, no idea where the f**k that guy is today.

Manfred Moore is a preacher nowadays. In his game for Newtown got badly tackled in front of 8000 fans with celb Paul Hogan watching and also smashed englishman Eddie 'Stevo' Stephson.

And whats all this crap about NFL players being amazing athletes, all the defensive players are overweight bludgers, all the wide recievers are skinny twerps, all the running backs are 5'10" and 5'11' midgets, the quarterbacks just stand there and pass a ball.

LOL @ NFL players being amazing athletes

Even if America took Rugby or League seriously, they could do well but wouldn't 'dominate'. At least not for a decade or two.

Once again; look at the example of Olympic Wrestling:

Wrestling is a major highschool and collegiate sport in America, with huge participation, an elite coaching program and decent funding. America couldn't manage a single men's medal at this year's World's and won a grand total of one gold at the 2008 Olympics, behind the two golds won by Georgia (pop. 5 million).

...and before you say 'oh but Folkstyle be diffrent, yo!!1', no it's isn't. There are some minor rule variations in Freestyle Wrestling and that's it. With Greco you might have a point, but even that is mainly a specialisation of one aspect in Freestyle/Folkstyle wrestling (the clinch).

Who are the two greatest Running Backs of all time?

Oh that's right:

Barry Sanders - 173cm 91kg

Emmit Smith - 175cm 95kg

Let's have a look at the star Wide Recievers of the 2010 Superbowl champions:

Lance Moore - 175cm 85kg(!)

Courtney Roby - 183cm 86kg(!)

Devery Henderson - 183cm 91kg

LOL!

Those guys, with 10 metres between them and their defender, often defending one on one, tbh most centres wouldnt get a hand on them.
Their abilities to cut off both feet and maintain near top speed, their combination of speed and power probably ensures 90% of the time they wouldnt need to pass to their winger.

Mate I like watching NFL too, but I must admit, they're overrated. They play at 80-100% stamina all game. Chris Johnson is a super ball runner, but he is great at using his blockers.
Wearing pads and taking as many breaks as they do, really makes it hard to argue for them, regardless of how hard the hits are.

Anyway who do you support? I think the Eagles are specials, Vicks back bigtime.

As far as stats being the be-all and end-all, here's a blast from the past:

Chad Stephenson was a former athletics star who was 6'3, 108kg and could run the 100m in 10.5sec. He joined the Newcastle Knights in the 1994 pre-season and people had huge wraps on him and how he would dominate in the Winfield Cup with his speed and size and there had never been a League player with his physical abliity etc.

He was cut from Reserve Grade after a handful of games.

There is a reason why centres who don't pass the ball are so frowned upon. The defense could easily hedge its bets and gang tackle him because he ain't passing the ball.

The best chance any athlete could make it is if we got them young. That way they could have a few of the skill sets drummed into them and a possibility to adapt. Even the most talented backs in the NFL are simply too far gone.

Perhaps Peterson would make a small impact every now and then with his unbelievable speed for his size and his footwork but that wouldn't come near his weaknesses.

It is a fundamental difference in the make up of the athlete. The best centres/backrowers instinctively try to keep the ball alive, something very frowned upon in the NFL and would prove their downfall even if they were physically up to the challenge.
