There's been talk that the first test, and maybe even the second, could be cancelled. If that's the case, Ch9/CA/people who've bought tickets to those tests won't be happy (especially the Adelaide test, which will be the first played since the Eastern grandstand has been completed and a big crowd is expected for the first couple of days of that test), and will make for a somewhat interesting two-test series held at the MCG and SCG. Can't remember the last time that only two test matches were played during the Australian summer (compared to the standard 5 or 6).

Or hypothetically, if the first test goes ahead but those players in the test squad who had close ties with Hughes do pull out, it will be interesting to see who from the Sheffield Shield will replace them. If an Australia A team was named (i.e. 2nd best Australian XI side) to take on the current squad, who would you choose?

I don't agree with cancelling the Test. The show must go on.

Besides, the Indians would probably get litigious. They've shown they are prepared to send West Indian cricket back to the stone age for a piss ant payout.

I doubt the test will be cancelled but I wouldn't be too confident in saying that the 12 named will all play. SOme of them, especially those that were there when it happened will be in a pretty horrible state of mind at the moment

I do agree with the part in bold (although I know some people may misinterpret what you said to be insensitive)

And yes, given the recent events regarding the West Indies tour of India, I don't think the BCCI will show any mercy on CA, given their test series with Australia generally yields them very high tv revenue.

Gee imagine the quandry if the First test goes ahead, sans test players who are close to Hughes.

The players who decide to play will be wondering if it's disrespectful that they play the game.

Of course, this all fails to be an issue if Hughes' condition improves in the coming days, which hopefully he does.

Here is the recent Australia A squad that played in July and August:

http://www.cricket.com.au/news/earl...n-northen-territory-and-queensland/2014-04-08

Jason Behrendorff (WA), Cameron Boyce (QLD), Tom Cooper (SA), Pat Cummins (NSW), Ben Cutting (QLD), Alex Doolan (TAS), James Faulkner (TAS), Callum Ferguson (SA), Peter Forrest (QLD), Josh Hazlewood (NSW), Moises Henriques (NSW), Phillip Hughes (SA), Chris Lynn (QLD), Mitchell Marsh (WA), Peter Nevill (NSW), Steve O’Keefe (NSW), Kane Richardson (SA), Chadd Sayers (SA), Mitchell Starc (NSW), Cameron White (VIC), Sam Whiteman (WA).

With the exception of Phil Hughes (for obvious reasons), Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh (who were both named in the 12 man squad for the first test), I'd have to think that any replacements for the Gabba test will come from that Australia A squad listed above. I just hope, of all the players, that Cameron White isn't selected (and should add Shaun Marsh for that matter)!

gonna be hard now i assume for any players to focus on the test, especially his current former team mates from NSW, SA and the test side.

I wont be able to watch the 1st test how the hell the players close to Phil gonna cope?

Phils funeral will be in a few days time or so and the test starts soon after that. No aussie will be preparing let alone thinking about playing cricket. Indian players would most likely feel the same way too

There needs to be a time for grieving and respect

Postponing it until after the Sydney test might be the best option

Don't know if there would be enough time in the schedule for that though

Was this before or after the news of the final tragedy?

Depending on how the Australian players and his parents feel about it I'd like to see it cancelled. If Cricket Australia has any guts or BCCI has any compassion it should be.

I read it at 12:15 and posted it at 12:17, stepped away from my desk for a bit and came back to read that Phil had passed. None of our Cricketers are going to be in the right mindset to play.

I wonder how this merkin feels now.

?Postponed because of one player? I don?t think so,? a BCCI spokesman told The Advertiser.

The BCCI are merkins, regardless of whether they change their stance....

Personally if they cancelled the entire series I wouldn't have a single issue with it. Some things are more important than the game. Or the $$$$$ that the BCCI care so much about
