Barrett deal all but done

Spoke to a guy who has some pretty good links to clubs especially the Bulldogs and apparently they offered Baz 600k and he turned them down. Apparently he want's to return to the Dragons. He more or less assured me Baz will be a red and white next season.

He also told me that Bennett loves what he sees at the Dragons especially in the Juniors department and that there won't be to many changes to the squad. Bennett even went as far as saying that the Dragons juniors are far better than what the Bronco's currently have and it would be a waste not use them. A few expereinced heads (Baz) and they will develope into a quality side.

So all this talk of 4-5 clubs interested in Baz and the Dragons linked to all these players may be just newspaper talk.

Not sure how reliable this guy is but I suppose only time will tell.

I have a feeling that the Saints will have a Barrett / Kimorley halves combo next season. Unfortunately 5 years too late.

I highly doubt that. $600k would make Barrett the highest paid player in the NRL. sure, he's good, but he's not 'the most valuable' good.... the doggies have been saying that his $400k asking price is too high - i doubt they'd offer $600k..

its all rubbish rumours until something is official..

I'm sick of it all too. You can blame:

1. the player managers, who want the whole world to know that evey club in the universe wants their player, thus starting a bidding war; and

2. the media, who when short on "real" stories, drum this stuff up to be news, when really it is all rumour, speculation, half-truths and street-corner tips.

Wake me when there's something with a bit of substance in the papers....:sleeper:

I think Saints have more or less a done deal with Baz unless they stuff up some how.

Bennett's chat about our juniors and retention was on 2SM one morning. Not sure when.

The Weyman deal was apparently done a while ago as well prior to Bennett. Not sure where that leave Ryles. I hope he stays as I think Bennett will do wonders with this guy.

Anyone know how much Josh Morris signed for? If they signed him for 280k then the 600k offer may not be as far fetched as you think.

$280k is still a bargain for a starting centre. That Barrett figure is way way overs, I doubt the Dogs would be silly enough to offer that much. It really doesn't fit with their MO in recent history.

The Dogs? Mate, they were telling the NRL they were under the cap a couple of years ago and were 1 mil over. Why would you doubt that they offered him 600 and are telling the press they offered him 400? I would not doubt anything dodgy coming out of that club. They threw the money at him so they can sign him under our noses and he knocked them back straight away apparently. Did not even have to think about it. If he does not join the Saints I will be very suprised. It will also prove my source was geeing me up.

... thats no good as it would limit the fund available to Bennett to sign other players.

Nope. Sorry to keep doubting you Slippery, but this time I do have some kinda solid evidence...

http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/news/a-ring-proposal-and-weymans-sold/2008/05/08/1210131165308.html

WAYNE BENNETT called Michael Weyman directly to inform the Canberra prop of his interest in signing him to play for St George Illawarra next season.
While Bennett didn't quite have Weyman sold at "hello", a reply in the affirmative was not long in coming for the six-time premiership-winning coach, who will take over at the Dragons at the end of this season. Yesterday, St George Illawarra announced Weyman had signed for two seasons.
Weyman, who is currently serving a six-match suspension for striking, admitted the call from a coach of Bennett's standing had given him a buzz.
"Wayne rang me and we had a yarn," Weyman said. "I don't want to go into what was said - I'd rather keep that private between me and him - but it was good. I was thinking I might get a call, if they were looking for a prop.

What a strange phenomenon, having a coach that just rings players and they roll over....... I like it.

Hey Godz, if you read the next paragraph it also states that the negotiations have been going on for a while. Maybe Benny confirmed he wanted him.

"I still negotiated with Canberra, but I spoke to the officials down here about where I was at and what their plans were, and I think I knew all along that it was probably going to be a good idea for me to start afresh somewhere else. Sometimes you just know when it's the right time for a change and this was one of those times. I negotiated with the Dragons for a while and now we've got a deal."

Maybe I am just hoping my source is right because I could not stand to see Baz in another jersey. It's hard enough watching Bails and Tallis when he first left the Dragons.

Alaxander said that he has never seen Baz win us a game. The year he won the daly M he won us plenty especially against the Storm when the Dragons smashed them at the Gong. He was phenomenal that game. He is a class act and it was disapointing how when he was not on the field the boys stepped up yet when he was on the feld they would just sit back and let him do it all. Benny will change that and hence win the Dragons a final. You all saw how well he can play when he wears the rep jersey on especially the sky Blue. He just needs the others to support him a bit and he will do the rest.

For a while. Benny got the job a while ago.

2000. You had to go back 8 years. Back in the present, Barrett's Wigan team were flogged 57-16 on the weekend.

He had great games since 2000 but that was a brilliant effort. Especially after the Storm belted the Dragons 70-10 a few months before thanks to BIg mouth Mundine.

Wigan will bounce back. Baz just came back from injury.
