Brisbane Tigers make their bid to be 18th team

This is hilarious. After all his campaignig for easts, donkey’s now abandoned them because he doesn’t like the name lol. Oh well theres always the dolphins mate :)

I am a huge fan of what the Brisbane Tigers are doing from U7s to Queensland Cup. However, the new revelations about taking 4 games to regional Queensland, as the "Queensland Firehawks", is just dumb business and shows they've lost the plot. There's no point advocating for them if they choose to use a failed business model. If it comes down to West Coast Pirates and Queensland Pirates then give the licence to the Pirates. If it's between a genuine Brisbane team playing 12 games out of Lang Park and Pirates then the Brisbane bid gets my vote for the 19th licence.

And 20th, 21st, 22nd, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

May as well oversaturate Brisbane like Sydney, that way GROTD can pretend that he intends to support the next Brisbane side forever.

I support rugby league in Brisbane.

You hate rugby league in Brisbane and Sydney.

A third Brisbane team will be far more valuable than plonking three in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth. For the first time in our game's history the average game day attendance surpassed 19k. You can thank the Broncos and Dolphins for this amazing feat. Add another Brisbane team and the attendance average will surpass 20k. You don't want to see crowds improve. You're happy with unwanted teams in Adelaide and Perth averaging getting 10-15k.

Yeah, where as I just support RL.

My first thought is to what is in the best interests of the sport as a whole in this country, where as you're parochial and totally apathetic to problems and concerns of the sport outside Brisbane's, and to a lesser extent Queensland's, boarders. I see expansion of the NRL as an opportunity to directly invest into growing the sport to new markets and audiences in pursuit of a better future for the sport over the long term, where as you see it as an opportunity for conquest in pursuit of increased representation in the NRL of your personal interest group, with short term benefits and a boom-bust attitude.

Basically I'm a fan of the sport it's self, where as you're more interested in the aesthetic and faux social identity of supporting the traditional suburban clubs in Brisbane. To an extent you could say I'm egalitarian, all for one and one for all, willing to sacrifice the aggrandisement of my team, region, state/territory, etc, however you choose to identify "my" group, for the betterment of all, whereas you're elitist and protectionist, and would happily murder the sport as a commercial product if you thought it was in the best interest of your particular constituent group (i.e. the BRL, QRL, suburban Brisbane, etc).

I'm Pete Rozelle and the 1960s NFL, where as you're the 1960s MLB, for those that understand the historic reference.

Dolphins in one year have grown rugby league more than gws Tasmania and suns combined (maybe lions too)

your one of the few people still trying to argue against the dolphins or similar additions

You're willing to sacrifice the history and tradition of the game in Brisbane and Sydney, all for the sake of creating professional clubs in markets that a) don't care for our game and b) cannot support an NRL club and pathways without heavy assistance from the governing body?

That makes you a communist.

There isn't a single example of communism working out well in Human history. The weak just sit on their arse and bludge off the strong. The strong end up not giving a shit and opt out of society because they're not rewarded for their contributions. We're seeing this with the Melbourne Storm. They just take from the strong and provide nothing in return. It's foolish to think things will be different for teams from Adelaide and Perth.

You want Brisbane and Sydney to fund your expensive project. When RL fans from Brisbane and Sydney object, you throw a tantrum

What are YOU willing to sacrifice for the good of the game in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth?

I never see you advocate for the diminution of RL in Canberra.

Quick question: how would you be sacrificing the tradition of Brisbane and Sydney to have sides from Perth or Adelaide?

Are you suggesting that it would kill these sides? Are you suggesting that they would somehow cease to have a history because of this action? I’m just curious to what you are actually implying by that choice of words.

Also that’s not communist. There are some socialist aspects to it but it’s clearly not communist.

Dane is a ranting and raving lunatic. He reckoned the second Brisbane team should have been called the Brisbane Sawfish and not affiliated with any BRL club. Anyone who thinks a team called Brisbane Sawfish would be more successful than the Redcliffe Dolphins is as delusional as f**k. He never explained where the money to fund a bullshit "neutral" team like the Sawfish would come from. He probably thinks all money grows on trees, is collected by a communist and then is given out to everyone via Centrelink.

Dane argues for the sake of being a prickly contrarian. His verbose arguments never make any sense and are based on bullshit.

Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth will always rely heavily on resources that are produced by RL clubs, fans and businesses in Brisbane and Sydney. Every cent that's wasted on propping up Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth will be taken from businesses and fans in Brisbane and Sydney who avidly support the game with their time and money.

AwFuL do this to the chagrin of fans in their heartland.

Dane in particular was against the Dolphins because they're a BRL club. He demanded the club be "neutral" and named the "Brisbane Sawfish".

How do you think that would have worked?

Perth Red wants to relegate the Queensland Cup and its BRL clubs to the third tier of the RL Pyramid, knowing full well it will kill off their commercial viability and erode their fanbases.

I'd be mad to support the bullshit vision of these blokes. If they want to build the game up in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth then they can do it with their time and money. I'll reserve my time and money for my clubs.

They were the wrong choice mate. We should have picked the second or third best option. Would have been way better 😳

You didn’t answer the question.

I don’t care what Perth Red or Great Dane said - I don’t agree with either of what they said in these instances - the Sawfish isn’t a good name to me nor I do think you should kill the Queensland Cup for a third tier competition.

Notwithstanding they are completely seperate points and I can agree or disagree with them or you on individual points.

Question is: Why or how do you think a Perth or Adelaide team would destroy the history or traditions of a Sydney or Brisbane side? The example you used would mean that they are materially poorer (i.e. they have less money). They haven’t suddenly disappeared into the ether.

Funding for the QRL and NSWRL will be reduced to cover the expenses of Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth.

Didn't I mention this in my previous post?

Reserving three licences for Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth means three areas from the heartland miss out on progressing to the NRL. A club like the Brisbane Tigers has the capacity to generate more revenue from the broadcasters, provide better third party sponsorship deals for elite players and convert more juniors into NRL stars. Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth will never be anything but parasites that provide zero value to the broadcasters -- look at the cumulative ratings for NRL in these cities --- and poach talent from the heartland.

If Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth provide no value to broadcasters, how does the AFL even have a tv deal?
