did they really though?

2017 Tv deal $385mill
2023 Tv deal $400mill ($12mill from SkyNZ+$5mill contra from Ch9)
Hmmm
Seriously from:
sportbusiness.com
14//10/21
NRL adds Dolphins as 17th team, Fox Sports ENHANCES its rights to cover the expansion. IOW extra loot , IOW the expansion is in a heartland(not a pioneering area) which Fox knows will attract more Qld ratings and ads.
So the comparison between both codes is shown once again to be flawed ,because the extra monies has not been announced in black and white.
Wasn't it a ch90 honcho saying another Brisbane team would be worth $20m pa? Anyway doesn't matter 9 is not paying the extras ,the bigger revenue supplier Fox Sports is.
So when it comes to an 18th side it stands to reason it will increase further.
And I'm still not going to compare it with the fumblers, it's like comparing an arm with a leg.

We keep hearing how flush with cash the ARLC is, and yet there is seemingly no money for expansion.
Who said that was the case? Didn't the NRL say they would have to make a decision well before the next deal ( this/ mid 2024 ) for negotiating in 2025? Giving an 18th team at least 2 years to prepare.
They either have money available or they have more than a fair idea what an 18team would be worth to FTA/Fox.1 extra round.

in reality they either have to negotiate with the incumbents and an extension to be sure the money is there for expansion in 2028, or to take a punt that the ninth game will be worth more than the $20mill a year it will cost and announce it prior to doing the next deal (deal will probably be in 2026) .

I highly doubt theyll take a Punt so don’t expect it will be announced u til the tv deal is done mid 2026. That won’t give much time for the new club but that’s rugba league for you.

I’m a dementia specialist if you want to pm me about your problem.

just to remind you of our previous conversations, cumins is heading a consortium working with the nrlwa. They have a business case from 2016 that is being updated. They have been getting advice from dolphins on putting the bid together, they have talked to bears but are ready to bid alone and it is in all likelihood the bid the WA govt will be announcing shortly as the one they are backing. that’s the one we know of. If Puddy and Sage are still interested in bidding we dont know.

I doubt it with sage as he is allegedly trying to offload the Glory and for him getting an nrl club was mainly about reducing his admin costs of Glory.

I’ll bookmark this for when you forget next time and ask the same question for the umpteenth time.

It wouldn't matter if the ARLC was bringing in $20b a year. The NRL clubs, QRL, NSWRL and RLPA would use their power to have $19.999B of it flow back to them to piss up a wall. The existing clubs would whinge about a cut of it being spent on an expansion team in an AFL city that needs to be propped up for 10 to 20 years. The players only care about making as much as they can. The QRL and NSWRL aren't going to concede ground to the affiliate states.

Sage has some serious financial issues apparently.

For a while he was looking to sell minority ownership in the Glory to get an injection of cash, but now he's just looking to sell. His asking price and demands have been unrealistic though, and he's only got interest from charlatans and big conglomerates who want to rebrand or relocate the club, which are his two main non-negotiables.

TL;DR, it's extremely unlikely that Tony Sage will be bidding for an NRL side any time soon, and his bid is probably best ignored if he does. Realistically the Pirates bid was always going to be better than his anyway, so it's no real loss.

on the Fight Club people mock the AFL for thinking they will "take over" which is fair enough but pretending that they are going backwards and we are an unstoppable runaway freight train is just as cringeworthy
Some league fans don’t have a chip on their shoulder and remember when rugby league was the number one sport in Australia

and have been waiting for a leader with the balls to take it back to the top

afl is an overhyped dud sport which many on this forum fawn over bc they get big crowds and for no other reason

Yeah, here u suggest smiths..in later posts u vigorously defend name;

"..it out there that instead of the name Bombers, which everybody hated because it's the same as Essendon, that they could keep their branding (that's actually pretty cool) by trying something like the Cleveland Browns and name the team the Smiths, or something similar, after Kingsford Smith...
f**k me dead, "the smiths", lets add that to the other shithouse ideas TGD has come up with, really loves that local concept, i remembered a few years back, there was an idea for "brisbane united", as if RL was a soccer team...

NRL is not funding expansion dummy. If that's Perth's business model should they bid they won't get in. Need own money

He did deny it before I found his old post so maybe he's come to his senses on that one

there are no club 18 bids from anywhere as the nrl hasn’t called for them yet. There is one definite perth bid team ready to put forward a bid if and when the nrl call for it. How hard is that for you to understand?
