Brisbane Tigers make their bid to be 18th team

Why did you ignore the Docklands games?

Did you forget they are playing there? Or are you being deliberately disingenuous?

I forgot about Docklands. Averaged 23k over two games. If you add that to games at MRS then the average bumps up to 18,384.

And where does there crowds rank in comparison to other clubs if you are going to exclude Magic Round?

Well behind the Broncos, Dolphins, Cowboys and Warriors.

And yes Singapore is a poorly thought out brain fart, to be clear.

Just like Adelaide.

Idiots wanting nrl to be like afl when we are succeeding by not copying them and whist their expansion clubs are failing

Perth and Adelaide will save the nrl

Perth should be able to run a team. They have support from the WA Gov and local business community. If they can present a compelling case to V'landys then they're a chance. If they don't then they'll miss out.

So in the top 5? Top 6? Higher then the vast majority of Sydney teams?

Surely anyone of rational mind would consider this to be a great result for a team in a non RL area.

They're doing really well. The issue is the circumstances that led to their creation and onfield success for the best part of 25 years won't be replicated with Adelaide.

Would the Storm have a state of the art stadium and average 18k to its games with a shithouse team that sits down the bottom of the ladder?

Without the success of the Melbourne Victory in the 00s then MRS never gets built.

If you don’t know the nswrl you can’t understand the nrl

Or Sydney..the city was once just the inner suburbs & the comp reflected that. In middle of 20th century outer suburbs opened up & saw exodus of workers to these areas. Fittingly st George, bulldogs, parra & manly would dominate. In recent times the inner suburbs have become affluent & fashionable & South's & roosters are the two biggest destination clubs. Even brands like newtown jets have cache..

Foundation date of rugby league in Australia is for the formation of the nswrl

club comp in Brisbane didn’t start till 1909

Newcastle and Cumberland were foundation clubs plus saints were going join then backed out last minute

amazing to think Newcastle travelled to Sydney to play games back then. Travelled by steam boat

One thing the NSWRL did better than the BRL was admitting clubs from the outer suburbs. The BRL didn't admit Wynnum and Redcliffe until the 50s. Jets didn't get in until 1986.

These days the only BRL clubs doing well financially are Redcliffe, Wynnum and Brisbane Tigers. All of the inner city clubs, especially the ones north of the river, are f**ked.

That's 100% down to the legalisation of Pokies though, without them the three you mentioned would be just as f**ked.

What would have existed before the 50s in the outer suburbs of Brisbane? I'm no historian but I wouldn't imagine much?

yeah sure but its not 1960 anymore... we have a (mostly) nationally televised competition with a team in NZ. Professional players who get paid $1 million a year, corporate sponsors etc. The game needs proper expansion, not more suburban expansion.

  • Crazy idea -
  • Demerge the Western Suburbs Magpies & Balmain Tigers ‘Wests Tigers’
  • East Brisbane Tigers take majority Control over the Tigers license with Balmain.
  • The club will simply be known as ‘The Tigers’
  • Based in Brisbane, play 8 Games @Suncorp & 4 Games @leichhardt
  • The 18th License goes to the Western Suburbs magpies, being based out of Campbelltown
  • Renamed the Western Sydney Magpies

An NRL team would probably seriously have a negative impact on RU in Perth, just like League has on the east coast, so that theory is not as far fetched as you think. It's possible elites would be trying to protect union...

What you're suggesting is so improbable and illogical it's laughable.

There's no way in hell the ARLC would agree to an under the table agreement with the ARU that benefits rugby union to our game's detriment. It's not like the ARU has anything to offer in exchange to buy our game's complicity in this one-sided arrangement.

This is a case of you not wanting to accept that your views on expansion are not shared by the game's power brokers. You're too arrogant to concede that your opinion is not based in reality. That would require you to admit to being wrong. You'll never admit to being wrong about anything.

It's easier to delude yourself into thinking there must be a conspiracy preventing your amazing vision on expansion from becoming reality, yeah?
