Melbourne captain Cameron Smith will have to fight to save his NRL season at the judiciary after being charged with a grapple tackle by the match review committee.
The Test hooker faces a minimum two week ban for the grade one charge of unnecessary contact with the head or neck of Brisbane's Sam Thaiday in the 59th minute of last Saturday's semi-final win.
Smith must beat the charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night to play any part in the Storm's quest for back-to-back premierships.
Teammate Jeremy Smith has also been charged with a grade one "chicken wing" tackle for unnecessary pressure to the arm and shoulder of Thaiday in the same tackle.
But the Kiwi international can accept a one week ban with an early guilty plea because he has less carryover points than his namesake.
Melbourne play Cronulla in Friday's NRL preliminary final at the Sydney Football Stadium.
