It will be interesting to see what they do here. Obviously they will fight the charge on C Smith, his season is over without a downgrade but J Smith will only miss 1 week and will make the GF if they get through. Can see them getting through 1 week without them but 2 is stretching it, particularly if Hoffman is also out

Cameron and Jeremy Smith charged over Sam Thaiday tackle

MELBOURNE Storm's hopes of back-to-back premierships have been hit for six by the NRL match review committee. Skipper Cameron Smith faces sitting out the rest of the season after being cited on a contrary conduct charge and powerful forward Jeremy Smith will be suspended for a week on a similar charge. The Smiths were cited for a controversial tackle on Broncos forward Sam Thaiday in last Saturday night's dramatic knockout semi-final at Suncorp Stadium.
Cameron Smith has been charged with grade one contrary conduct in "unnecessary contact with the head or neck" of an opponent while Jeremy Smith was cited for a "chicken wing" tackle on Thaiday's arm.
Storm now face the prospect of taking on the Sharks in the preliminary final on Friday night without the two Smiths as well as Test backrower Ryan Hoffman (leg injury).
Cameron Smith has 93 carryover points from an earlier offence this year so he will cop a two-week suspension whether he fights the charge at the judiciary or not so Melbourne will definitely take his case to the panel.
Jeremy Smith risks a second week's suspension if he fights the case and loses.

Don't fear Melbourne fans, it's ok. He'll fight it on Wednesday night and be exonerated

Smith's on the phone to Thurston,LOL.
Seriously though,Thurston had eyes bigger than his stomach in his tackle - He tried to pick up the player but was not strong enough to control it.

Smith deliberately went for the head...
However he'll no doubt get off.

I've heard TAB Sportsbet are already framing a market that he is allowed to play on the weekend ...

Yeah not worried in the slightest (much).

Though it wont be due to a News conspiracy, more the former players wont consider it worthy of missing a potential GF.

Will the judiciary be weak and back down or will they finally try and stamp this grapple crap out of the game. Suspending these two at this time of year will definately send the message that this tackle is not acceptable. I can see them both getting let off though, especially C. Smith, he'll have some bullsh!t defence like Thurston last year and have nothing to answer for.

Melbourne captain Cameron Smith will have to fight to save his NRL season at the judiciary after being charged with a grapple tackle by the match review committee.
The Test hooker faces a minimum two week ban for the grade one charge of unnecessary contact with the head or neck of Brisbane's Sam Thaiday in the 59th minute of last Saturday's semi-final win.
Smith must beat the charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night to play any part in the Storm's quest for back-to-back premierships.
Teammate Jeremy Smith has also been charged with a grade one "chicken wing" tackle for unnecessary pressure to the arm and shoulder of Thaiday in the same tackle.
But the Kiwi international can accept a one week ban with an early guilty plea because he has less carryover points than his namesake.
Melbourne play Cronulla in Friday's NRL preliminary final at the Sydney Football Stadium.
