Dally M update thread

Can someone please remind me why we didn't have the Dally M's in 2003? I have no recollection of that. Perhaps it's time I start investing in some memory pills!

Wait, let me get my broom ...!

And in relation to Inglis winning Five-Eighth Of The Year, I personally always thought the team of the year was based on DallyM points, but when you've got Cameron Smith and Billy Slater collecting as many points as they did and finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively, there's not really room for a 3rd player to go so well. That's my take on it anyway.
RLPA doozy. They were all, 'we're not coming to your stupid awards if you don't do what we say' and the NRL were like, 'hey bitch, this ceremony is for you, we don't even need it'. So the players were like, 'Nah uh, you're so going to give in'. And yeh, the NRL cancelled it and I'm pretty sure Gower cried himself to sleep that night.

Congratulations OX.

Well deserved for someone who understands that the sum of the whinging coming from dropkick critics on this forum amounts to more than the complexity of their brains.

This does sound vaguely familiar. The Gower comment rang the faintest of bells for me.

Come to think of it, I should look it up in one of my books! Why didn't I think of that before?!

yeh...upset that a Manly player was nowhere to be seen ;-)

also devastated the Brent Kite did not win...:sarcasm:

manly don't have a set lock, they were never going to get a nomination there

I'd be more devo that no storm prop made the nominations rather than worrying about kitey (or even perry):D

I know its late in the piece to be saying this now (I probably campaigned for it at the time) but people (especially selectors) wonder why nsw lost again. when they had no established easy-pick halfback they tried to go with a fullback, then went with two rookies as opposed to the dally m player of the year (obviously they didn't know then but he was in fantastic form and which was when he posted the majority of his points).

they are in need of props and they ignore form (and one aussie) props and go with encumbent/storm player who has had an average at best year? Why did they pick white again? something has to change, selectors, change in policy to actually allow in form players to be choosen as opposed to fan/selector/coach favourites. I doubt campese would have made 5/8 if he were in his current form then, because they had the irresistable option of a australian lock and a player with experience in origin to choose from(although I did think anasta deserved his call-up at the time).

Well done to matt orford. I remember a lot of people here predicting manly to slide big time this year because monaghan left. Well he was achingly close to leading his team to the minor premiership and people still don't give him any credit. Manly also finished with the best attack.

Campese and Anasta both finished above Inglis in the voting so how does Inglis win 5/8 of the year?

Talk about a Storm love-in.

well campese would have been 5/8 if it weren't for slater. the way I understand it if you are in top 3 in voting you get the positional award (unless 1/2 is in your position). so if slater hadn't polled the 1 point in the last round then he would be on 21, and things could have been alot different. campese, being tied 3rd place, would be guarenteed 5/8, leaving it difficult for news ltd/nrl to get inglis in their somehow. incidentally, if campese had polled 3 instead of 2 that same week he would have got it aswell. a bit unlucky IMO.

I'm surprised jason ryles didn't pick up the prop of the year, he had 5 more points than petero, and while I think glenn stewart deserved second rower he had less points than many of the candidates (6 less than hindy, thaiday, 5 less than watmough who wasn't nominated and heinghton).

Its unbeleivable isn't it? Still can't understand why the selectors never picked him for SOO. They have already lost 3 series in a row without him. With Orford winning the Dally M, their bias is now shining through. Especially when you consider they picked unproven and inexperienced players, time after time. And time after time they lost.
