"High NRL IQ"

f**king roflmao

Like it or not, rugby union is a far more nuanced, and technical, sport than rugby league. And Cheika has succeeded in union.

There's no reason he couldn't succeed in league.

This idea that he can't coach and NRL team, because he's scarcely coached rugby league, is the dumbest point I've ever heard, tbh.

They're acting like he's coached a completely disparate sport.
Are you saying that in Union they do more than chase the collision?

I doubt Cheika is going to come here without a solid plan and if the club hasn't asked him what that plan is and who his assistants are then they are idiots similarly if Cheika comes on board and doesn't ask the club what their plans are then he is an idiot.
So you’re saying he wouldn’t be a blank cheik?

I’ll leave now…

I was talking to colleague about Cheika. He seemed to suggest Cheika was average at the Wallabies. Is that true? I don't watch Union.

Tallis' is saying he wants an experienced guy and uses the 10 house analogy. So according to him who would be available? Tim f**king Sheens? He doesn't throw up any options. Just shuts down Cheika because he's a union guy.

Had a 50% record I believe.
Wallabies fell away badly towards the end of his tenure.
He took a very average team to nearly beating the all blacks in World Cup final and then beat the all blacks in a couple of tests and then also beat the all blacks when coaching Argentina.

Which is exactly what 90% of the league followers on here have done for a decade + ? Any mention of rugby union on here gets met with a unified launch of sarcastic white noise. So hardly surprising, right ?

I think a lot of people here don’t really like the game of union but appreciate there are still some good athletes / people involved, hence why so many on here are keen on Cheika.

Tallis also said he wanted Cayless and Burt to be head coaches. Okay Gordie!

N9 matter who’s the coach and we all have opinions on that, there should be no divided opinion that the recruitment and retention staff need refreshing. Identification and contracting our own juniors is nowhere near satisfactory and once target players are identified it seems that the process to completion is ponderous and somewhat lacking in reality to other clubs.

There is some movement in bringing into the club juniors from elsewhere, but still for some reason other than Ethyn Martin, none with elite speed. To get that reviewed it was Ethyn’s father who got his manager to call the Eels when they stated they were looking for an elite backline player. Not scouted but offered.

Get that area sorted and the pathway to more success will be easier.

What you have done is displayed some realistic balance about the sport of rugby.

My point is that concession, that there are decent qualities about the sport and people who are involved, goes missing to most leaguies unless it suits them. Like now.

Just ran into the great Billy Moore at the shops. Great fella who I have a beer with occasionally and genuinely loves to chat footy. He’s up and about over the Bears news. Said the Bears should be everyone’s second team, how can anyone hate us, we don’t win anything. I countered saying we should be the same then :D

Anyway, says Cheika will be seen as too risky by the Eels board because it places their heads firmly on the chopping block if it fails. Said much the same as we’ve heard, that he’s meant to be an excellent man manager and if he’s chosen he’d get Luke Burt in as an assistant along with others.

He did say that Hannay is really well thought of and it’s only a matter of time before he’s a full time head coach somewhere. Said we could do far worse than Hannay if that’s how it goes.

Anyway, nothing earth shattering but just thought I’d share. He also said he knew we’d fall apart against the Dogs when we were up by 8. You me and everyone else Bill.
