We are not a fave to win it. But todays team?
Lets take out 4 roosters players from top 17 and add Beau Scott, Bevan, taka, terepo. And maybe Moses. To ours.....

Leagues simple. We have enough strike weapons to score 20 points. Get to top 8 and hope ball bounces our way.
But once you're in the top eight you face four straight knock out games to win the comp. Assuming you come in at 5th-8th, at least two of those games are against better teams, meaning your chances of winning all four are less than one in eight.

But your previous posted suggested that it was good enough, why would we need to recruit anyone else if that was the case?

Where did I say it was good enough ?

I have only made some points about today's game and made the point we were totally out played !! But also it wasnt our day. But we are also on par with a few other sides in the 8 probably from st George down.

But I also try to look at the positives rather then the negatives.

I have previously suggested we need a half, a forward leader and good bench play that can play a few positions or a hooker.

Here's our run home (opponent's current position on ladder):
R11: Raiders (10th) ANZ
R12: Rabbitohs (13th) ANZ - prior to Origin I
R13: Warriors (12th) ANZ
R14: Cowboys (6th) Darwin
R15: Dragons (5th) ANZ - prior to Origin 2
R16: BYE
R17: Bulldogs (8th) ANZ
R18: Storm (1st) Melbourne - prior to Origin 3
R19: BYE
R20: Tigers (15th) ANZ
R21: Broncos (4th) ANZ
R22: Bulldogs (8th) ANZ
R23: Knights (16th) ANZ
R24: Titans (11th) ANZ
R25: Broncos (4th) Brisbane
R26: Rabbitohs (13th) ANZ

You think we can't win eight of those?
No. I don't think we have the players to make the 8. I think we have stagnated this year and will finish around 9th -10th based on what I have seen so far. The better teams are too good for us and we are no certainties to win any of the games against our peer teams. Our depth and not having a real home ground is also in that mix as well.

You didnt factor in injuries. Remember the year dogs made it against souths. Played 2 teams with buge injury tolls to get there.

Of course I want to be premier contenders and I am f**ken sure BA does and he probably working 24 hours a day to get us there!!

So not sure what your point is!!

But BA also knows we need to improve our squad - thus the recruitment of a half / middle forward and search for a hooker!!

Let's not forget this year is probably our "baseline" year where finally all our cap / management isssues have been sorted and we can finally look at strategically improving our squad rather then just being desperate trying to sort all the shit out!!
We were also late to the party for our 2017 recruitment due to the salary cap issue being drawn out.

Penrith and titans are 2 teams who can explode.
We are like dogs. If start well can win any game but if not we dont have the strike to fight back.

But if you think we'll finish around 9th or 10th then surely you think we're a good chance at finishing in the top eight. f**k all points usually separates 8th and 10th.

This is a key point. We need to start well to win. Once we're behind, especially against a great defensive side like the Roosters, we've got nothing. Playing catch up just leads to a negative possession spiral. Guys like Mannah and Scott are no help when we're chasing points so it burdens our other forwards.

And their over-the-odds performance over multiple years proves it for mine.

Doesn't prove anything though does it. It's nothing more than a guess and it's an excuse you want to use to justify why the team you support has been unsuccesful.

I'd be shocked if the Sharks spent more on overall player salaries than we did over the past 5 seasons. Staggered actually.

Yep this is how I see it as well. Start well or we're little chance. It was exactly the same against the Sharks earlier in the year.

Well we'll never make the Top 8 if that's the case.

Not a lot of points usually separates 10th an 16th either. It's just my opinion, I don't think we will make the 8 based on the information currently at hand. For instance, todays game reinforced that opinion as far as I'm concerned. We lack direction, consistency, depth, defense, strategic kicking in general play, no real home ground and a decent goal kicker. We're getting closer but no cigar this year.

Norman is a great player, but if we are behind or getting rolled but hanging in the game (like today when we were down 14 to 4) he struggles to make some good "game management" decisions.

Do u think Thurston / johns / cooper etc etc down fail to take the kick, they would find touch after finally scoring. Our often did Norman find touch today ? Elite halves do that !!

But then again there isn't many elite halves in the game and Norman is our sole half.
