Just went to Melbourne for the first time this week, it's shit. Sydney is way better.

Two different cities both with their charms and drawbacks. After sitting in traffic for hours getting around Sydney this week (and school holidays so god knows what it's like normally?) I couldn't live in Sydney, melbourne weather and lack of beaches means I couldn't live there either. But I love spending weekends in both cities.

But but it's so European! Maybe that's why I've been to Europe 3 times and Melbourne only once. I don't go to Hurstville if I want to go to China.

Does that George bloke genuinely think that Sydney is a better city than Melbourne!

That takes the cake for biggest amount of poo I have ever read.

Everyone I know - including many Sydney natives winge about how terrible Sydney is, from the people, the lack of community spirit, lack of transport.

Its just a shithole with a nice harbour.

Melbourne beats Sydney in EVERY SINGLE WAY.

I cannot fathom how any neutral (Non Sydneysider/Victorian) could ever think Melbourne comes close to Sydney. It is inferior in every way imaginable as far is I am concerned.

Each to their own i guess.

Melbourne has better public transport, is better organised in the CBD (but its not like it would have been hard to design) and its stadiums (well the main 2) are in far better locations.

Sydney is a better looking city, has better weather, has the more iconic architecture/buildings.

Melbourne defecates on Sydney from a great height:
better public transport, better roads, better stadiums, better shopping, cheaper housing, better restaurants, better nightlife.
Sydney has the harbour and rugby league.

Not that this has anything to do with Stadiums, but...
The difference between cities is that the 5% of Sydney that is near the water, plus the inner west, are great, but most of Sydney is a dump. Drive anywhere else at you see run down shops and houses and everyone seems depressed. You simply don't see that in Melbourne.
I see Sydney as 10-15% rich, 20% middle class and the rest as poor. Almost all of Melbourne is middle class. There is only a handful of run down areas.
Melbourne has fewer attractions, but the suburbs of Melbourne - where people actually live, are much better. It is easy to get around, both driving and PT.
Melbourne actually has better weather, but Sydney and all of NSW has a much, much better pub culture.
Plus we can spell Gyros correctly. Yeeros?
Back to stadiums...
Melbourne wins because it has the best rectangular stadium in Australia.
Melbournians consider Etihad (Docklands) as a dump (and hate going there compared to AAMI / MCG), but if it were in Sydney it would easily be the best stadium there and everyone would rave about it.

I'm from Sydney and can solve this easily.

Melbourne is better.

There, happy now? Feel better about yourselves? Good. Now stay where you are and keep living in delusion.

Stop talking shit, you make it sound like that if it doesn't have a water view, then Sydney is Mogdishu.

And Melbourne burbs are bliss?

Box Hill?
Frankston?
Dandenong?
Melton?
The shit parts of Altona?

What is wrong with vast areas from Chipping Norton to Blakehurst?

Chipping Norton, Moorebank, East Hills, Revesby, Panania, padston Heights, Peakhurst Heights, Lugarno, Mortdale, Oatley?

Much of the shire is a bomb zone?

West Ryde through Hills District to Hornsby?

These are all very livable areas on any global comparison.

Someone has been reading too many "The age" commissioned articles to call Melbourne the world's most livable city.

why would you build a city away from the coast on a river thats a turgid brown?

with a skyline thats looks less developed than the north sydney cbd.

and the beaches are an embarrasment.

chapel st is ok and the casino is better and thats all its got going for it.

5% of sydney is near the water lol what a dope

:lol: At those saying Melbourne has great public transport. Obviously never lived in the place.

Sydney's problem is there are huge black holes where trains are non existant (eg in the north west). Other than that, train frequencies, reliability, station facilities and the actual trains themselves sh!t all over Melbourne's (and every other Australian city's) train network.

I challenge any Sydneysider to live in Melbourne for a year and see how quick u come running back. You don't know how good you have it up here.
