Its not pedantic, its a terrible plot hole that you'd expect to see in a dumb action movie like Fast & Furious instead of what is right now the best show on TV.

It could have been solved with 30 seconds of flame breathing awesomeness before she flew away.

The Tyrion drowning (beside character changes) was exactly as written.

And Dany's dragon rocking up isn't a plot hole. It's convenient. And if that bothers you, well, I imagine a lot of shows bother you with their 'plot holes' because in every show ever written the hero has been saved by some arsey chance happening.

You ruined the show for yourself.

I'm talking about what happened AFTER the dragon and Dany pissed off. Tyrion, Jorah, Daario, Missendei? All still trapped in an arena surrounded by hundreds of sons of the harpy trying to kill them. We never see or have it explained how they all managed to escape unharmed. The next shot of their story is just them sitting in the thrown room trying to figure out where Dany flew off to.

With the stone men, it doesn't matter if the scene is exactly how it is written. All that means is that Martin also had zero idea how to get them out of that scene alive and so just skipped over it and picked back up with them safe and sound.

How do you feel about the lack of Aya/Asha?
She'll be back next season.
That's why they massively culled this season, so the ironborn can come in.
I suspect that's why they might have changed Stannis' arc slightly as well, because Victarian is a bit similar to Stannis.

I assumed they were safe when the dragon rocked up and started breathing fire on everyone, people scattered out of the arena and even if the SoH were there, they were distracted and numbered.
I dunno, tv isn't books, it requires you to join the dots a little bit more - I honestly think that's why book purists struggle with adaptations.

I haven't read the books either, so I am not basing my disappointment on that.

I'm happy to join the dots once the foundation has been set. We didn't need to see some epic battle between Stannis and the bolton army, for example. They just showed a nice aerial shot so you could see how outnumbered they were, and thats all you needed to know. You could fill in the blanks of how the battle was going to go down as soon as you saw the horses coming over the hill. So the jump cut to Stannis dying and surrounded by his dead men was expected, and just good storytelling.

That scene in the arena didn't set up anything like that though.

They were completely surrounded and just awaiting death before the dragon arrived. dragon certainly kicked a bit of ass when it first showed up, but then it was starting to get overcome with spears and that is when Dany jumped on flew away. The dragon flew in, cleared a path for Dany to escape, and bugged out. Her flying away looked like a retreat from danger, not a glorious victory ride. Its a big leap to then just tack on "and then the rest of them won/escaped somehow".

I for one can not wait to see what Tyrion does about the lack of storm drains on Merreeni roads.

I really enjoyed this season. Pacing did not bother me at all. It must be a nightmare working all these plots into 500+ minutes of tv and also working with written material that lost its steam.

Probably because it was.

Ok fair enough.

I think the problem here is, if that footage was extended and concluded a few things would happen.
That actual moment is about Dany & Drogon, the way in which it ended means that the show nails it.
If she flies off, then Jorah & co fight off the SoH and escape, it takes away from that moment.
It also kills any momentum.

I actually love the season. 8-10 were all f**king epic.

No criticisms, I'm just happy to watch a show I love week in week out (except for the next 42 weeks).

I have a theory.

Cersei will be in the tower right at the end after Dany has laid waste to Kings Landing and has finally taken over the 7 kingdoms. Cersei is her finaly stand but the Kingsguard stands between them.

Cersei gives the order to the Kingsguard to slay Dany.

The Kingsguard lifts his sword and brings it down hard.....across Cerseis neck.

He turns to Dany and her Dragons, removes his helmet, and exclaims..... Hodor.

Yeah, Jon can't be dead. But I felt that exact same way after Ned Stark head was chopped off thinking to myself maybe it's just a dream. Back in 2011 GRRM said this

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So why did you kill Jon Snow?
GEORGE R.R. MARTIN: Oh, you think he’s dead, do you?
http://www.ew.com/article/2011/07/21/dance-with-dragons-shocking-twist-g

So Arya's a warg? or did I interpret that wrong?
and how in holy f**k would Sansa survive that jump?

I remember reading somewhere that GRRM will release the next book before next season starts, so maybe that's why some episodes felt slow early on. So if the producers know this, it would make sense to not go too far past the books even if they know how it will all end

Arya is not a warg, don't you remember what your mother told you about playing with yourself too often? Masks should only be played with if absolutely needed.

I'm going to subscribe to the theory that Jon will rise from the Ashes of his funeral pyre.

Arya and jon both have warg abilities in the book. They were set up early in the series as being able to warg so that when it happened later on ( Arya starts really utilizing her warg abilities when working for the faceless men, especially after she's blinded) the ground work had already been laid. But in the tv series the setup hasn't been there, so if Arya and jon both have use of their warg abilities in season 6 people are going to think it's a plot hole, lazy writing or to much of a coincidence.
