Lol @ deadlines being part of his job. When a writer is as big as GRRM and a series as anticipated as ASOIAF, their publishers do not set deadlines on their singular works. GRRM is rich as f**k, they can't hold cash flow and advances over him like they can an upcoming writer. They ask how many prostitutes he'd like them to send to lick his balls while he writes a word a day. It's not like movies, publishers don't have to invest millions of dollars and trust someone to turn a profit out of it. They just sit and salivate for the part when they start printing, like printing cash. Any deadline is something he allows them, and is subject to him taking up golf.

Good point. I forgot to add that while publishers can dictate deadlines, it's in their best interest to be lenient as f**k.

That's all true if he simply is just writing a book, and then it gets published. But one detail you're all forgetting is there's small tv show that is based on the books, and now that tv show has not only caught up to the book series but will surpass it in some areas

The first season aired 5 years ago, and whether you like it or not GRRM did not want the show to surpass the book series, no author wants their own original content to be first revealed on a tv show instead of their own books. That's the whole point.

JK Rowling understood this, and she managed to write 3 more books once the first Harry Potter film was released and all within 2 years of each other, and she's made a lot more money than GRRM.

JK Rowling prior to the first HP movie released four books in the span of 1997-2000. They actually came on a slower release cycle after the movies than before them.

Prior to the first season of GoT GRRM released 5 books in the span of 1996-2011.

Not sure if there is really a comparison.

It doesn't matter if the show has surpassed the books, it doesn't make the fans any more entitled to his books, and the publishers will still be lenient with him.

Take out ADWD, and that's 4 books for GRRM from 96-05. First 3 books spanned from 96-00.

Its not like he isn't capable, and he really did want to finish TWOW before season 6. That was his goal.

Bro, you're arguing against a point that no one made.

No one has made that point because no one is going to openly admit that they are self-entitled.
ASOFAI fans are the WORST ever, if someone is missing one eye lash there's pages of complaining all over the place.

Surprised nobody has whinged about Yara (Asha) making out with a chick in the trailer, she's obviously into the D in the books but it makes sense that she's presenting this way in the show.
I assume Victorian's storyline will be merged with hers which is great because I hate him.

Most looking forward to the flashback scenes and TOJ, surely it features Lyanna but they have kept her casting under wraps.

If it?s a flashback through the eyes of Bran then it?s possible we won?t see what goes down inside the tower. IIRC He can only see what the trees can.

Agree about Victarion.

There's no chance the creators of Asha can't get past the dogs scene could produce anything near as good as Victarion attacking the Reach, freeing slaves and sacrificing to the gods.

Okay serious question. If the trees can see the TOJ fight, then why can they not see what happens inside the tower?

So for people who haven't read the books, a quick summary on brans visions. The children of the forest can see through the eyes of The weir trees (the trees with faces cut into them). Not only can they see through them in the present, they can look into the past. Now with the tower of joy, that opens a few possibilities. They may see the fight outside, see ned and Howland reed enter the tower, and come out with a baby. The tower of joy scene may also possibly be a flashback ( which has only happened once on got so far) of Howland Reed telling the story of what happened. The visions through the weir tree may also include a possible lyanna and rhaegar wedding (tradition in the north to marry in front of a weir tree). Grr Martin has deliberately mentioned that in the past targaryeans have took more then one wife, and that kids from those marriages are legitimate. Therefore jon snow would be the legitimate king.

Also on the r+l=j theory, I was recently watching the second episode, where jon and ned farewelled each other, and ned said 'next time we meet, I'll discuss your mother'. I think this was deliberate from ned. He knew that the next time that he spoke jon would be part of the nights watch, so jon would be bound by oath and wouldn't be able to take his thrown, he'd be safe from danger at the wall (keeping lyanna's dying wish), and not causing chaos that a Legitimate heir to the thrown would cause to robert baratheons claim to the thrown.

It will be interesting to see what Bran does with that information if he does indeed see Jon at the Tower of Joy. Does he try to tell Jon somehow or has he seen him die through the wierwood?

I'm confused, because I thought only weirwood trees have those powers, and I'm sure there's no weirwoods in Dorne...I obviously have no idea how the magic actually works.

A lot of castles kept small weirwoods, wether the tower of joy has this is unknown. It may also be a flashback told by Howland reed. While flashbacks aren't apart of game of thrones, their has only been 1 in 5 seasons, for such an important event I'm sure an exception can be made.
