While on the subject of the cap is it possible for peaches to do a backflip or has that time period passed. Seems a little weird for him to leave. I know he has a young family to worry about but he always seems to be one of the happiest on social media.
Cant backflip anymore.

You get a short cooling off period. But that would have passed long ago now. He's gone.

Titans will take years to develop systems and a squad which suits Brennan’s style of play.

I believe any coach needs 3-4 years to develop systems and culture

Mate...come on...be real. Do you really believe Egan and May re-signed for the minimum "Just to be in our top 30". Both were being chased by multiple clubs last year. Soon as May debuted you add at least 100-120k to his contract because that's the business. If you don't, you lose them. Same goes for CHN...in fact for CHN it was add 200k.

Egan was in NYC team of the year and in this age of hookers being vitally important to build around...he was a hot property. I know at least 3 clubs offering him 175k+ last year before re-signing with us.

Jed was chased by Manly so he'd be on just above Minimum while Kaide Ellis is off contract this year along with Oliver Clark and Liam Martin and those will be tough to re-sign as other clubs are already sniffing around them - Especially if any of them debut and go ok on debut. You'd assume of those Ellis will debut at some stage.

But thing is...if we lost these guys...these young prospects that you feel aren't valuable right now or should be only the minimum....then you'd be the first one here blaming Gus losing those guys at the expense of keeping guys like Browne and Tamou. Be honest with yourself for a second...and tell me you wouldn't?

Now, the reality of the situation is that we have a lot of guys off contract this year and next that will need to be kept. Waqa, RCG, Cleary top the list while guys like Ellis, CHN, May, Egan etc will be all due extensions soon enough after as they signed 2 year deals mostly. Obviously the priorities will be Cleary, RCG and Egan in that list due to spine/middle forward priority.

We had saved some money by getting rid of Carty while Peach's 300k will go towards Cleary also.

I think we need to realise that Mansour, unless something changes, will likely not be here next year. I'd love him to stay but I don't think it's fair for him to sacrifice any more money. If he does though...along with getting long service discount if Sam retires...then great.

Tamou wont be re-signed post current deal which runs out 2020 I believe and likely shipped 1 year early and possibly Merrin and Maloney also. This will be to clear the decks for Cleary contract for 2020 and beyond.

The question is this - Will all of this movement and cap management be worth it? Because if Cleary doesn't re-sign...then we may have set our team back 5 years.

Spot on. Clubs watch these players in lower grades. 9 have now debuted from the 2015 NYC team. Similar from 2013 we are known as a developing club. We go to Storm, Broncos and co other teams come to us for young guys.

Using CHN as an example. He played FB, Centre, 5/8th, Lock, 2nd row in a successful junior team. Transferred that into playing 80mins in FG. Scored 7 tries that puts their price up.

As for if it is worth it. No one looks terrible in our squad so we are keeping the right ones.

Whether Cleary stays or not. The going rate for halves have gone up and we can buy anyone else.

Agreed. Takes 2 years to clear out the roster another year or 2 to get that roster on the same page

Hard to believe that all these guys with potential just hung around on minimum contracts.
Impossible to believe in fact.

Mate you need to look up what the word fact means.

FACT is last year was a top 25.
FACT is this year its is a top 30.

That's 5 extra players to fit into the cap by requirement. Not choice. Thats 5 players who are getting a healthy pay bump simply by requirement.going from second tier players to minimum wage NRL players.

Theres simply no way we don't have at a MINIMUM 5 guys on the bare minimum contract. 5 guys who are simply there because they had to be. Every single club in ghe NRL would have that.

In our top 25 last year we had guys on minimum wage who are yet to get new contracts aswell. Those guys also got a payrise by the minimum wage going up. Should take us to atleast 6 or 7 guys on minimum wage for this season.

But hey. Lets give all these guys a big pay rise ontop of their existing pay rise just to make it that much harder to stay under the cap.

FACT is... saying that doesn't make something a fact.

Interesting how quick Ivan has the Tigers looking good so quickly. Not arguing the point with you, more a credit to what that club is doing. They have put a lot of emphasis on being 1 team everyone is equal combined with getting them competing in little games at training to get their competitiveness back and it seems to have made the process quicker.

The game in general could learn a lot from Ivan.

They have scored 2 tries. Conceded 36 penalties... Hardly playing well despite the 2 wins. I presume the new coaches at Souths, GC and Dogs at some stage will chalk up a few wins as the year goes on. I don't see either playing finals... Next year will be far better

What you’ve highlighted is culture and despite the media and outside noise, it was Jason Taylor and Mick Potter that started that entire process. Both spent their entire coaching time blooding youngsters, battling the cap, Robbie Farah and so on.

Ivan is benefiting from two coaches trying to rebuild the club and it’s culture from years of internal dumb f**kery.

Not suggesting Ivan isn’t a great coach and I’m really happy to see the tigers playing well but he’s not had to deal with half the crap those before him did.

If me or mx said this about Panthers we'd get drilled for being unrealistic and negative. We can't have it both ways because we're fans of one club and not another.

That's a really good point.

They've beaten 2 premiership favorites on defence despite giving away 36 penalties.

Hardly playing well? That's something we could only dream about achieving. Cleary is the only coach weve had in over a decade to beat Craig Bellamy with us.

It remains to be seen if they can keep this defence up but their biggest signing is yet to play gor them and they have like 9 guys who are new to this roster. It stands to reason that their attack should get better with experience.

Looking at the roster there's no way they should be a top 8 side. But maybe in 6 months we'll rate alot of these guys differently.

Tigers have conceded 16 points in 2 games. We almost give teams that much of a headstart before we start playing.

And both teams would have played their worst games in 5 years...

Roosters attack looked like something out of the under 8's , and the storm dropped more ball than a bowling alley...

Good on the Tigers for getting the wins up, have to give it to them, but their opposition were not even looking like top 8 teams.

And you dont think Tigers crappy defence forced them into playing badly at all? Pretty lucky to face them at their worst

All the "experts" were saying the Tigers rushing defence caused problems for both teams and it's a matter of whether they can sustain it over the season.

I know it already and still don't believe it when I read it. Crazy stat.

I am not following it up with saying they underperformed or the coach is garbage. Like with us lets see where they are in 2 years when the changes take effect
