I've been calling for independent doctors to make calls about concussion for some time.

This is a step in the right direction. Some times players need saving from themselves.

One step closer to the sport not existing, its a matter of time

Maybe, maybe not. Most of the trouble comes from players no longer tackling around the hips. Nearly all players these days are attempting to tackle opposition players whilst the player is standing up.....leading to heaps of head clashes.

It did need though to be addressed.

I thought that was the case already?

Accidents are part of footy. Take the tackle on Jenkins which led to a sin bin and now suspension.

There is zero the defender can do to not hit in the head.

The sooner these 'experts' realise the better

The only way the sport survives is if offloading is banned........is it the same sport then?

In the olden days (yes I'm showing my age here) tackles were generally made by going round the hips and sliding down the legs.....(a grassing tackle) Very few concussions occured whilst using this technique.

Spear tackles, coathanger tackle in those years caused the most damage to the attacking player.

Perhaps we need to go back to the classic tackle of the 60's and 70's. Get rid of this wrestling shit. Or alternatively allow only maxiumin of 2 players in a tackle, instead of 4 or 6.

Tackling players around the chest or shoulder (in my opinion) is what is causing the problem.

The old saying then 'you can't run without legs' would come back into vogue.

More players get hurt going legs now.

No islanders back then nor Full time in gyms meant players could. Players are too powerful these days

I agree.

Perhaps it's time to limit how many players can be in a tackle, and outlawing all types of martial arts training.

Wade Graham has HIA issues. Self inflicted and often only him in a tackle.

We see very few dog shots now. Often is just timing or luck is off. It is good when those accidents happen that steps are being taken

Players don't go for legs now. They're yelled at by coaches when they do bar players on an edge. They're taught to get for the hips and drive them back if you go low. If they go for the legs players just easily offload.

I agree that they are not taught to go low but I don’t think it is about the offload, but more about the way the game is reffed. A good legs tackle and it is hard to offload, but they hit the ground fast and the refs yell at you to get off straight away. Can’t slow the play the ball down.

I would like to see the legs tackle rewarded as ‘dominant’ for a while to see if that would have a positive impact on tackling technique and concussions.
