I'd rather be right than see another person realize their dreams & be happy.
THE San Francisco 49ers have officially announced they have signed Jarryd Hayne to a three-year contract.
The 49ers posted the news on their website and social media accounts today.
Interestingly, the 49ers opted against signing Hayne to a futures contract and instead offered him a multi-year deal as an undrafted free agent. NFL rules stipulate undrafted free agents must initially sign three-year contracts.
In announcing his decision yesterday, Hayne indicated he had been given guaranteed payment of $100,000, covering 15-20 weeks with the team. It was a deal that surprised US sports writers and which rival teams Detroit and Seattle were unwilling to match.
Futures contracts are usually offered to fringe players whom franchises think might compete for a roster spot during the pre-season. They are usually modest in value and are little more than a foot in the door of a prospective NFL career.
Hayne’s rookie deal is a step up from a futures contract and although it still offers him minimal guarantees, it at least indicates San Francisco is genuinely keen to pursue Hayne’s development as an NFL player, rather than take a short-term gamble.
The 49ers have form in this area: They are headed into the third year of an experiment to turn British rugby player and Olympic discus thrower Lawrence Okoye into an NFL defensive linesman.

And those scouts have seen something completely different to what you've seen in Hayne, given multiple clubs were offering him a deal while you believed him to be terrible.
I don't think NFL clubs partake in wasting their time and money on people who have no chance.
Their population is well over 300 million actually, and China and India have populations over 1 billion. Yet all 3 of them get their asses kicked by us in plenty of sports and not a one of them can hold a candle to the tiny island nation of Jamaica in producing athletes. What is your point?
You think Hayne is paying his own contract? The money which he listed as a primary reason for signing with the 49ers is fake eh? Why exactly do you think that?
Yes yes NFL players are all superhuman freaks that could be winning gold medals at the olympics or curing cancer with their 150 IQs but choose to play NFL. No mere mortal like Hayne could hold a candle to them
His combine stats (those things that you apparently watch every year. Do you honestly? Because most people who actually matter really don't put any weight into them) put him in the elite class of rookies. That is a fact. Multiple NFL scouts who unquestionably know more about the game than you do see something in him, enough to offer a 3 year contract and an (albeit small) guaranteed salary while he completes his pre-season training.
The only thing standing in Hayne's way of success is his age. Had he had the means to go across at 21 he'd have had a long career in the NFL, as would a dozen other players from the NRL if they'd done the same.
Just say Jarryd makes it, and no-one hopes he does more than I, does he have to keep getting a mention in a Rugby League forum

Nick, why would any RL fan want to see a "future Greg Inglis" leave the NRL and go to the NFL? What possible benefit is it to the sport of rugby league? Its a massive detriment to lose players of Hayne's calibre. For what - bragging rights about how RL produces great athletes?
As he is a former rugby league player, I am guessing he will get mentioned in a rugby league forum.
Those mentions will increase when he does something newsworthy, like sign a contract, make a cut etc.
Just like when a former rugby league player gets charged with drug trafficking, it's likely to be mentioned on a rugby league forum.
Former rugby league player quits AFL to join rugby Union, again will probably get a mention in a rugby league forum.
It's a pretty easy concept to understand.
